Y10 GCSE Drama Terminology

Teachers copy

Use the words in the box below to help you to complete the following
definitions of Drama terms:

A STILL IMAGE is a frozen picture which can be created by a pupil

acting as a SCULPTOR, and positioning another pupil or a group of
pupils in a way which communicates meaning to the AUDIENCE.
Two forms of STILL IMAGE are freeze frame and tableau. An easy
way to remember the difference between these two terms is to imagine
that a tableau is like a PHOTOGRAPH and might not be linked to other
tableaux or even in a sequence. A freeze frame can be compared to
pressing PAUSE on a VIDEO. A freeze frame is a
frozen moment of a scene.
Sometimes, a scene can be frozen and pupils call out the thoughts going
through a characters mind at that moment. This is called
THOUGHT-TRACKING and helps to reveal a characters true thoughts
and feelings.
Putting yourself into someone elses shoes in order to try to understand
the emotions associated with a particular issue is called ROLE-PLAY.
One of the aims of GCSE Drama is to create emotive and INTERESTING
drama through using this skill convincingly.
