Dear Maysville Families,

Happy New Year! As we enter 2016, our efforts to
work together as a team are important to the academic achievement of every one of our Maysville students! Weve set high expectations for students and
are working to help each student make strong learning gains. Were so glad youre on our team!
We recognize that Literacy is key to success in all
content areas. At home, you can help by encouraging
your children to read and talk to you about what they
are reading and learning. Ask them lots of questions and get their opinions as you
engage them in conversations. Have them write letters to relatives or friends far away
or even keep a daily journal to practice writing with a purpose. Encourage your child
to explain their understandings in all content areas.
Math is another area we are striving to grow in this year. Ask your children to explain
their mathematical thinking using math vocabulary. How did they get their answer?
Can they prove their answer? Do you have questions about homework or math strategies your children are using? Your childs teacher is the best resource, but we also
encourage you to visit the resources available on the teachers website for additional
information. Often times, you find instructional videos or problem solving demonstrations.
We are committed to creating a strong community of learners and our staff looks forward to continuing partnering with our families in 2016!

to earn and collect more!

P BIS Updates

We hope youve been hearing great things about

our implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior
Interventions and Supports) from your child.
Students are earning Talon Tokens for showing
S.O.A.R. behaviors throughout the school day and
have the opportunity to trade them in for special
rewards and incentives. Recently, students have
also had the opportunity to trade in TEN of their
Talon Tokens for lunch with a friend at special
tables in our foyer area.

Students are allowed to check out books for a 2 week period

Students are not allowed to trade or swap snack items or of time. Students with overdue books will begin receiving
lunch items at school. Thank you for helping reinforce notices of overdue books soon. Students that have 2 overdue
books may not be allowed to check out any new books until
this important safety rule with your children.
