DIRECTIONS: The Senior Project is a portfolio that will consist of the following
components. You must turn in all components on or before the due date.
Part 1: Personal Statement (all students):
First, identify your Career Path after high school. Choose from the following list:
four year college/university
two year college or technical school
trade school
military
workforce
Next,

identify the following goals:

short term goals (3-6 months)
goals you wish to achieve within the next 5 years (college years)
long term goals (5 years and beyond)

Type an MLA format paper which includes how you plan to achieve your goals. The goals
may be of both a personal and professional nature.
Part 2: Career Research (all students):
You will next visit a one of the websites listed below that has a Career Interest
Inventory. First, you will create an account on the website. Then complete the online
assessment of hobbies, talents, skills, etc. to determine which careers are best suited
for you.

Based on the information provided in the Career Interest Inventory, you will conduct
research on various careers. Compile a chart of two careers that interest you.

Part 3: Resume (all students):

Create a resume that includes personal information, employment experience,
skills/talents, education, clubs/activities, community projects, and references. We will
work on this in class, and I will give you some various templates from which to
choose.

Based on the Career Path you chose in Part 1: Personal Statement, please complete
one of the following sections:

I. College/University Bound Students

A. Students who are interested in attending a four year college/university, two year
college, technical school, or trade school will research 3 potential schools. Make sure
you find colleges that are best suited for you, and one you would be happy to attend.

B. College Application
Fill out an application for at least one college. If you apply online, print the
application. If you apply with a paper application, make a copy of the application.
If you have already been accepted to a college, include a copy of your acceptance
letter.

C. Admission Test &/or Placement Test

Show proof (copy of admissions ticket or copy of scores) of the appropriate test
needed for the college(s) in which you are applying.

D. Scholarships/Federal Financial Aid

3. Federal Financial Aid*

Seniors wishing to receive federal financial aid for college should complete the federal
online form called the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The application
applies you for all federal and state grants, scholarships, federal work study, and student
loans. Seniors wishing to receive federal financial aid should apply for FAFSA, regardless
of which college you plan to attend or if you have been accepted to college.

* Undocumented students cannot apply for federal financial aid and should not submit
the FAFSA
Complete the following steps for the FAFSA pin:
1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov, click on Step 1, and apply for a PIN (Personal
Identification Number). You and your parent (or guardian) will each need a PIN,
therefore, each of you will need to apply for a PIN. Once the PIN application has
been processed, you will see a confirmation page with a confirmation number.
2. Print the confirmation page for the project. The PIN number will serve as
your signature when you submit the online FAFSA. Applications will be available
online in January.
3. Your parent (or guardian) must complete their taxes before the application can be
submitted. NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT!
II. Military Bound Students
Students who are interested in enlisting full time active duty in the military upon high
school graduation will determine which branch of the Armed Forces best suits them.
Complete the following steps:
1. Contact an area recruiter and begin the steps to join the military.
2. Research which MOS (military occupational specialty) you are interested in and the
training that is required.

III. Workforce Bound Students

Students who are interested in immediately going into the workforce will acquire job
applications and set up interviews in their career of interest.
Complete the following steps:
1. You will submit a list of 3 programs and/or places of employment and their criteria.
2. Include copies of completed applications. If you are currently employed, provide a
signed letter from your employer.

3. Create a cost of living budget on your potential job earnings (see attached
worksheet).
Call the appropriate companies to find out answers
Interview your parent/guardian to help you fill the worksheet out.
