ATTORNEY GENERAL CONGRATULATES ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL

ON RECEIVING PRESTIGIOUS GOV. RALPH CARR AWARD

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers congratulated Assistant Attorney General Melody
Mirbaba on receiving the prestigious Governor Ralph Carr Award. The Asian Pacific American Bar
Association of Colorado presented Mirbaba the award at its 20th Anniversary Celebration Thursday night
in recognition of her service as a public-sector attorney who has shown a strong commitment to the public
and her community.

“Melody is a bright and talented attorney from my office’s Public Officials Unit,” Suthers said. “Given
her accomplishments in numerous high-profile cases, this award comes as little surprise to those of us
who have seen the caliber of her work.”

Since joining the Office of the Attorney General in 2002, Mirbaba has represented the Colorado Department
of Human Services in litigation, including a case before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals including the
state’s right to govern domestic relations matters. Since 2004, Mirbaba has been a member of the Office of
the Attorney General’s Public Officials Unit, which handles cases arising out of and affecting the offices of
Colorado’s governor, treasurer, attorney general, treasurer and the Judicial Branch. For example: During the
2004 election cycle, she defended challenges to the Secretary of State’s decisions to place various
initiative measures on the ballot, including Fast Tracks. And in 2006, Mirbaba played a critical role in
defending the Secretary of State in a lawsuit challenging the certification of electronic voting machines.

During the 2008 election, Mirbaba was the lead attorney for the Secretary of State in a broad challenge to the
State's voter registration list maintenance practices (Common Cause v. Buescher).

Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Mirbaba worked at the Law Offices of Frank J. Ball in
Denver and as a special advocate in the Colorado Judicial Branch.

She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Denver College of Law and a 1996 graduate of Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
