FUNDRAISER FOR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES

Our PTO Board has set a goal of raising $10,000 through fundraising efforts to purchase books for classroom libraries.
Children learn to read by reading! We believe there is no greater fundraising cause than efforts to enhance the
growth and achievement of all children as readers.
Reading is making meaning from print and requires that we:

Identify the words in print word recognition

Construct an understanding from them comprehension
Coordinate identifying words and make meaning so that reading is automatic and accurate fluency

In its fullest sense, reading involves weaving together word recognition and comprehension in a fluent manner.
These three processes are complex, and each is important. Along with the International Reading Association, DFES
and its PTO strongly advocate for books for all children in high quality classroom libraries.
Characteristics of a Literacy-Building Classroom Library

300-600 books, depending on grade level

Wide range of reading difficulty
Permanent collection and a regularly replenished, revolving collection
Variety of topics, genres, and perspectivesdiverse and multicultural
New high-quality books with appealing covers and bright illustrations
Attractive, inviting setting

This will be our only fundraiser for each student this school year. We thank you for being an active and essential
