PROBLEM 1
1+2+3+1+3 = 10 p
Sketch the H, V and R pressure head diagrams for the left and the H and V diagrams for
the right cross section!
H,V,R?

PROBLEM 2
The cross section of the gate pictured
on the right is composed of a circular
left part and a triangular right part. A
concentrated force F is exerted to the
gate by a lever on the top. The weight
of the structure is negligible. The width
of the structure is B = 3r, other data are
given in the figure. Determine the
magnitude and orientation of the force
F that prevents the rotation of the gate.
PROBLEM 3
A cylindrical floater has a diameter d = 50
cm, and a height m = 1 m. It is fixed to
the seabed with a chain. During low tide,
the chain is relaxed and clow=75 cm
emerges from the water. During high tide,
the chain is tensioned and only cd = 50
cm is above water.
a. / What is the weight of the buoy?
b. / What is the tensile force in the chain
during high tide?
The specific weight of seawater is t=10.3
kN/m3

PROBLEM 4
10 p
A horizontal, circular (d = 250 mm) pipe carries an unknown fluid with a velocity of v = 1
m/s. The pressure head read at two sections a distance of l = 10 m along the pipe is h1=
1.40 m and h2= 1.30 m, respectively. Find the kinematic viscosity of the fluid, = ?

8+4 = 12p
PROBLEM 5
3
a./ What depth H is necessary in the tank to satisfy a flow rate of Q=0.2 m /s? The
outflow is free.
b./ Sketch the theoretically correct energy and pressure grade lines,

Q=0.2 m3/s

H=?
in=0.5

l1 =10 m

contr =0.4

d1 =500 mm

l2=40 m

bend =0.5

d2 =250 mm
