BOAT SAILING

A high angle CU of boat sailing in the lake


MICHAEL WALKS HOME
A frontal, eye level, ELS of Michael. He walks up the hill (towards the camera)
and turns left to go through the front gate.
LS, taken from behind Michael as he unlocks the door and goes inside.
HALLWAY
A frontal MCU of Michael switching on the lights, illuminating his face, then
exiting the frame (left).
KITCHEN SCENES:
Michael prepares dinner:
Blocking instructions:
Michael comes into the kitchen, switches on the light and places his coat, hat,
briefcase and scarf onto the chair. He walks over to the calendar behind the door
and neatly crosses off Friday with a red marker. He goes over to the edge of the
hob and open the can of beans, lights the gas, then pours the beans into the
pan.
a. Master shot: A frontal LS, high angle, facing the stove- covering the
entirety of the action.
b. A frontal CU of the calendar (fills the frame), Michaels hand enters the
empty frame, crossing off the last Friday of the month.

Eating dinner:
Blocking instructions:
Michael comes into shot, with his plate of baked beans and toast and a glass of
water. He sits on the left side of the table. He plays around with his food for 5
beats. He cuts pieces with a knife and fork. Takes a few bites. Pause. He stares
ahead at the view. He leaves shot.

LIVING ROOM
Blocking instructions:
Michael walks into the living room and sits on the far end of the sofa. He takes
the remote from the coffee table and switches the television on. He stares
sleepily ahead and takes a few swigs of vodka. He continues watching, gradually
becoming more tired. He lies across the sofa and soon falls asleep. He tosses and
turns. He suddenly wakes up disturbed after hearing childish laughter. He looks
around blinking his eyes and after a few moments sits upright on the coach. He
switches off the TV and rubs his eyes and forehead. He hears the noise again. He
jerks upright and looks towards the window. He gets up and peers out the
window through the side of the curtain nearest to the door and exits through the
living room door.

HALLWAY
Michael walks to the door.

Front porch:
Michael opens the door, looks right. Looks surprised to see the boy sailing a boat.
He steps outside. The boy runs away. Michael walks over to the boat, picks it up
(complex emotions), and throws in bin. Glances down the road from the house in
search of the boy.

A. Master shot: Frontal LS of Michael and the boy (capture for entire
sequence)
b. Side view, high angle LS of boy sailing boats, slide the camera
swiftly forward on the slider (slanted) towards the boy going into a
CU, he looks into the camera and runs out of shot

outside of shot

run off

Master bedroom: MICHAEL GETS UP
Blocking instructions:
Michael sits at the edge of his bed staring ahead out the window opposite. He
gets up walks up to the mirror, looks at himself in a dissatisfied way and walks
out of frame.
LS, camera placed behind Michael sitting on the bed and then walking out the
frame

KITCHEN:
MICHAEL PREPARES BREAKFAST
CU of toast popping up from toaster, kettle boiling and butter being spread.
MICHAEL EATS BREAKFAST
Blocking instructions:
Michael walks with plate and cutlery sits on the far end of the table as before.
Picks toast up ready to eat. He hears a knock. Surprised expression. Second
knock.
Pause. Exits shot to the door.

Frontal MCU Michael upon hearing the knock, looking confused. He
puts the toast down

BOY AT THE DOOR


Michael opens the door, he looks down in surprise to see the young boy standing
close before him on the doorstep. The boy looks up at him with a small smile.
Michael glances over to the bin in distress and the young boy follows his gaze.
The boys smile drops and he turns to leave. Michael looks concerned and
motions for him to wait whilst he goes inside. He tears a plastic leaf out of his
binder and folds up an origami boat. He goes back to the door and offers it to the

young boy, who grins and takes it. Boy leaves shot then reappears and beckons
for Michael to follow.

The boy takes up a stick and lunges towards Michael who picks up his own stick.
They have a short sword fight, Michaels scarf falls off, Michael ties it around
head, they carry on and boy jabs Michaels arm. Michael chases him through the
trees, jabs boy who then turns and chases Michael who surrenders, hands up,
laughing.
a. Master shot: frontal, LS low angle of woods, Michael and boy enter the
shot (capture entire action)
b. Master shot: O.T.S from Michaels shoulder (track him with the
camera as they play fight (handheld)
c. CU of swords clashing together before the fight commences
d. MLS, low angle, of Michael fighting, his happiness is apparent. The
camera moves in accordance to Michaels movement.

expressions)

Move the camera from side to side to capture the movement of
the sword fight.

They reach a road across the dam and stop to pick up stones and throw them.
They carry on towards home.

MICHAEL AND BOY WALK HOME


Master Shot: frontal, eye level, ELS Michael and the boy walk up the hill
together and laughing (same shot position as the first shot of Michael coming
home from work)
THEY ENTER KITCHEN
Blocking instructions:
Michael opens can of beans. Boy grabs sieve and puts it on his head, runs out of
kitchen. Michael looks up surprised and follows the boy.
a. Master shot: LS, high angle, facing the stove- covering the entirety of
the action.
b. Side view CU, low angle of Michael opening baked beans (same as
previous shot)
c. Frontal MCU of boy putting pan on his head and enthusiastically running
out the kitchen (leaves frame)
LIVING ROOM
Blocking instructions:
Boy runs round the coffee table with a sieve on his head, faces away from
curtains.
Takes the sieve off and runs and jumps onto the sofa into a head stand. Michael
follows him into the room and puts his head in between his legs to look at the
boy upside down. Michael stands up and puts sieve over head, walks round the
table in the same way the boy did. He hears laughter. Puts pan down. Looks left
and right confused. Starts looking for boy. Looks by sofa, behind curtains.

Blocking action:
He enters the bedroom. He stops and slows down heading towards the wardrobe
(tiptoes) as if he is going to find the boy. Quickly throws the wardrobe doors
open. He goes down, removes clothes from the lid of the box. He takes the box

out of shot, looking stunned. Goes over sits on the bench directly towards the
mirror.

Michael walks down the harbour towards boats and in to the distance. He looks

round in accordance with his head movements as he looks around the
seaside and sailboats
