Location recce

Whilst location scouting, I measured the suitability of the locations we visited to

form a recce. This was an essential process for me as the camera operator for
my responsibility included handling and looking after the camera and lighting
equipment.

Exterior shots: in front of the house
When Michael enters his house.
When Michael finds a boy sailing boats outside.
Michael interacts with the young boy.
The interior shots will be filmed inside the house, including
the kitchen, living room and master bedroom.
Scenes representing Michaels mundane life and
psychological entrapment.
Michael re-connects with his inner child by looking
through a box of personal childhood items.

Inside the house: downstairs next to the kitchen and upstairs
beside the master bedroom.
The house is situated near a food cooperative, where we can
purchase food for our crew and cast members.
A few sockets available along each wall of every room,
including the bedside table in the master bedroom, so we can
use additional lamps.
Sunlight available from around 7:50 am.
Windows are located on one side of the kitchen, living room
and master bedroom, providing natural sunlight. However,
additional light sources will need to be used.
Fairly quiet as the house is not situated on the main road.
However, heavy winds can disrupt sound recordings.
Limited space in the kitchen, living room and master
bedroom. In order for the whole cast and crew, lighting
equipment and camera to be on set, store the equipment not
in use in the guest bedroom.
We have permission from Angelas husband to use his
cosmetic products and colognes as props, in order to design
Michaels bedroom.
Warm looking, luxurious and spacious house, which would
serve to capture Michaels isolation and sadness as he

a. Our actor Tony has a scene, whereby he puts a sieve on
his head and runs round the table in the living room.
The risk is there is a narrow space for him to do this
and he wont be able to see where he is going clearly.
To minimise the risk of him injuring himself, practice
these scenes with Michael without the sieve on his
head, also clear any items that may be in his way.
b. Cables and wires can be tripped over. To minimise this
risk make everyone on set aware of where these cables
are to prevent them from injuring themselves or
damaging equipment.

These shots will be of Michael and the young boy embarking
on an adventure together, whereby they sail boats in the
dam, have a sword fight with sticks and chase after each
other. This change in environment also signifies a
development to the plot, whereby Michael becomes happier.

Appropriate setting as there are many sail boats in the area,
which is a reoccurring motif throughout the film, but this
location shows how Michael is finally acting to fulfil his
dreams.
It may be slippery due to poor weather conditions, so wear
walking shoes with a firm grip.
