San Benito School Staff Interviews

Secretary:
(Discuss their job responsibilities)
There are three secretaries at my school site.
Pam: Head Secretary to the principal
o Distributes yearly new emergency cards to the staff and
keeps all emergency information up to date
o Types confidential matters, letters, reports, handbooks,
bulletins, memoranda, and other documents
o Maintains confidential files and all other files and records
o Updates staff roster
o Responsible for school petty cash
o Assists in health duties if needed
o Attends health in-service training
o Gives information and assistance to staff regarding:
District policies
Supplies
Forms
Schedule events
Operates modern office equipment (computer, fax,
copy machine)
o Prepares and submits time sheets
o Issues, collects, and maintains records of keys issued to
staff and other authorized personnel
o Assists in giving badges to substitutes
o Issues and corrects Bicycle Safety Quiz
o Creates homework contracts
o Distributes free/reduced lunch applications
o Maintains school master calendar
o Orders office supplies
o Maintains students suspension binder
o Keeps the district safety binder up to date
o Reports all accidents (teacher, student, parent)
o Crisis management team member
o Enrolling new students/withdrawing students
o Responsible for students cumulative records
o Quarterly Bengal awards
o Trimester honor roll certificates
o End of year perfect attendance awards
o 6th grade promotion
o 911 emergency person

Sherri: Clinical Secretary and the Health Clerk


o Sherri is mainly a helper to Pam doing anything that she
might need help with. As a clinical secretary she is
responsible for:
Answering phone calls
Dealing with the school budget
Organizing fieldtrips
Answering emails
Helping with parents who come into the office
Filing paperwork
o As the health clerk, Sherri is responsible for:
Keeping students medication and medication
paperwork
Keeping student health records available
Taking care of students when they come in with
illnesses or injuries
Calling parents when they need to pick up their
students
Alicia: Clinical Secretary
o Alicia is mainly a helper to Pam to do anything she might
need help with. As a clinical secretary she is responsible
for:
All attendance forms
Writing and distributing the monthly school
newsletter
Answering phone calls
Answering emails
Helping parents who come into the office

Custodian:
(Discuss their job responsibilities)
Daily cleaning in all the classrooms, such as cleaning the boards
and vacuuming the floors.
All yard work that needs to be done: pulling weeds, watering
plants, and cutting the grass.
Any maintenance that needs to be done in the classrooms or on
the campus: anything broken, light bulbs out, or windows not
opening.
Principal:
School policies and procedures:
o The schools parent-student handbook is posted under
section six: materials collected from school site. All

the schools policies and procedures are outlined in the


handbook.
District policies and procedures:

Special education policies and procedures:
o The schools special education parent handbook is posted
under section six: materials collected from school
site. All the schools policies and procedures are outline in
the handbook.
Dress code:
o Boys/Girls (where applicable) Acceptable School
Attire:
1. Dresses, blouses, and tops must have straps (at
least one inch in width) over each shoulder, attached
to the front and back.
2. Tops must ensure complete coverage of
undergarments.
3. Foot attire must be worn which protects the soles
and toes of the feet at all times. Sandals must have
heel straps.
4. Shorts, skirts or dresses must be midthigh or
longer, and neat in appearance.
5. Hair is to be clean and combed.
o Boys/Girls UNACCEPTABLE School Attire:
1. Bare midriff skin showing from short tops, halter
tops or lowcut pants (midriff is covered when arms
are raised).
2. Revealing, offensive or distracting clothing
(includes offensive/obscene and/or derogatory
symbols, slogans or patches on Tshirts).
3. Distracting jewelry, headgear or cleated shoes.
4. Excessively oversized clothing (Belts must be worn
to prevent large waist pants from slipping down).
5. Wallet chains of any kind that are five (5) inches or
longer.
6. Shoes with wheels wheelies.

Use of electronics in class:


o Students may bring cell phones to school, provided such
devices do not disrupt the educational program or school
activity and are not used for illegal or unethical activities.
Cell phones are to be turned off during the
instructional day (8:00 to 2:45)
If a disruption occurs or a student uses any mobile
communications device for improper activities, a
school employee shall direct the student to turn off
the device and/or shall confiscate it.
If confiscated, the device will be returned at the end
of the class period or school day.o If confiscated a
second time, the parent may be asked to come to
the school to reclaim the phone.
School Calendar: Special Events:
o The schools yearly calendar is posted under section six:
materials collected from school site. All special events
are outlined on the calendar.
Expectations for student teachers:
o Keep your mind open to all information from all teachers.
Observe different classroom environments and classroom
management skills
o Always be on time and always give it your all
o Student teaching and the first year of teaching is the most
difficult and overwhelming time, but it gets easier
o Always be 100% prepared for everything and anything, by
doing so you are setting yourself up for success and giving
yourself the opportunity for a smoothly ran day
