Patanjali always advocated for independence leaving every enslavement

behind. Sashtras(holy books), teachers, traditions, garlands, temples,
mosques, shrines, gurudwaras and churches all make us dependent. Maharshi makes
us religious and true believers. But he never pretends. He says that you yourself are the
centre of any religion. He does not divide dharma in the name of icons. He inspires us
to stride towards our goals. He tells us to remain unaffected in times of happiness and
sorrow, abuse and praise, prosperity and adversity and even victory and defeat. Always
endeavor. Always introspect. Through endeavor, struggle, enterprise and execution of
your duties march forward in search of yourself. Alongwith this, always have faith in
the Almighty. This whole process will filter your conscience, and your distresses will be
minimized.
Maharishi Patanjali never asks to pray to a statue or idol. In his opinion an absolute
end of sufferings is the sole way to attain divinity. He says that the ultimate aim of
Kriyayoga is to attain a state of meditation, self-exploration and absolute end of all
your desires for trifles. To clear this impurity of conscience, he advises us to follow
Ashtangyoga. Maharishi Patanjali, while describing Ashtangyoga, which includes Yam,
Niyam, Asan, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyan and Samadhi, says that without
following these it is impossible to get spiritual and universal peace. Behind every Yoga
and practice of Patanjali there is only one aim - to remove darkness and impurity.
Disbelief, illusion and prejudices must be left aside. He talks of attaining a transcendal
state through Dharana, Dhyan, Samadhi and self-restrain. In his opinion everything is
within us and we need not go anywhere in search of them. Through self-control, he
advocates that knowledge of the past and the future is possible, while also teaching us
to become invisible. Along with this, he talks of various attainments like Akasman and
Perkaya, Anima, Laghima and Garima. He reveals many things about human anatomy,
celestial science etc.
Maharshi Patanjali introduces us to the finer mysteries of the world. He describes
four types of Samadhis(state of meditation) i. e.-Savikalpak, Nirvikalpak, Sawichar and
Nirvichar. His vision is scientific. He advocates the path of Truth, Devotion, and absolute Happiness. He reminds us of the reality, mortality and wretchedness of life. He
explains yoga as science. He says that every yoga form has a definite result. He reiterates that the amalgamation of Gyanyoga, Bhaktiyoga and Karmyoga leads to completeness of Yoga. But he is not unidirectional. He is not prejudiced. He marches on spiritual
but with a scientific approach. He does not teach to quit but he enlightens us. He keeps
us steady amidst war and peace. I like Patanjali because I find his teaching absolutely
true. No one has ever motivated me more than him. Through yoga as our conscience
increases, and we begin to realise the mysteries of yoga. We must continue our journey
on the path of spirituality and meditation, and God himself will help us. I also am a
practitioner of yoga and to see how the truth unfolds in front of me gradually. Our ultimate goal is to achieve truth, knowledge of ourselves and to explore our identities.

about 96 species of animals, 67 species of birds and 46 types of fishes are on the brink of
extinction. Apart from this 217 varieties of vegetables are fighting for their existence. This
shows us how alarming the situation has become. The government has not taken any serious step to save
them and stop their extinction. Our negligence has ensured this issue does not get discussed enough. While
certain endangered species are talked about at times, there is still a great lack of awareness, which is essential to tackle the situation.

in temperature in
April has surprised
many. It seems as if fire
is falling from the sky.
The earth is as hot as a
furnace, with a depleting
water layer, decreasing
rainfall, frequent
droughts, and terrible
levels of water-air-land
pollution. Along with
these, physical pollution,
cultural and emotional
pollution are also
increasing greatly. This
is seen everywhere. If
we don't contain and

life tough for the common man,

while also making it very difficult
for other animals to survive. The
situation has become so bad that
many species are on the verge of
extinction. An organisation,
International Union for
Conservation of Nature, works for
the various environmental causes.
According to a report issued by
the organisation, 687 species of
plants and animals are facing the
threat of extinction. In 2008 this
number was 659. 28 species have
become a part of this list within a
year.
The problem of water pollution
is also increasing at rapid pace. In
cities, the disposal of industrial
garbage is not taken seriously. The
easiest place to dump them are rivers. As a result, the river no longer
remains clean, but becomes a
drain. The Ganga and Yamuna are
apt examples of the same.
The extinction of species is a
wakeup call for us. The negative
impact of such a scenario is now
visible. Any extinction simply
means a disturbance or an imbalance in our ecosystem. All species
form a complete cycle. If one goes
missing, the complete cycle will
collapse. Everyone will pay the
price for this.
The felling of trees have contributed a shocking 15% to carbon
emission. Global warming is a man
made hazard. 95% people believe
we are the sole cause of climate
change, while the remaining 5 %
believe natural processes are the
cause. These figures have been
established from studies conducted
at Edinburgh, Melbourne and
Victoria universities.
A Times Online report illustrates the extent of human impact
on the climate. Apart from global
warming, the increase in salinity of
seas, the increase in humidity, the
irregular rain pattern and the

squeezing of arctic sea (at a rate of

0.6 million km square per year)
are all man made problems.
The Inter-governmetal Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) too, has
been unable to analyse the impact
of humans on the climate.
However, in the Panel's report, it
has stated that the impact of mancaused emissions can be seen in
remote areas. An expert on climate change, Peter Staut has said
that in order to stop global warming, human activities will have to

be controlled. He has further said

that due to an increase in temperature, the rate of evaporation has
also increased, which has added to
the salinity of oceans. Evaporation
is the chief reason behind the
increase of humidity and the irregularity in rain patterns. It rains
heavily in areas where there is no
need, while rain eludes those areas
in dire need.
According to the International
Organisation for Migration, an
estimated 20 million people will be
forced to migrate by 2050. Many
organisations fear this number
may exceed 70 million. By 2050
the world's population will be
around 9 billion, and 8 % of these
will suffer from the effects of pollution.

Mother Nature, can we save the

future.
The present and the future is
determined by man's action. We
may not feel the effects of these
actions in the present, but the
whole community will face these
consequences.
Once we understand our role
and duties toward protecting and
conservating the environment,
once we accept its importance,
only then can we easily develop a
common global programme for the
conservation and betterment of the
environment, which will be highly
dependent on the attitudes of people and their acceptance of it.
Man's description of the environment and his committment to save
it will define the future course of
action. If everyone believes they
have a duty toward the society,
only then will the future be bright.
To see the world in a new perspective, one will have to be generous,
and not selfish. Only then can we
execute our duties toward society.
The measurement of human
achievement in terms of per capita
income will not go a long way.
Man needs be measured in terms
of his abilities to achieve his goals.
It wont be wrong to say that
through religion we can curb our
greed to exhaust nature. To overturn the attitude of acquiring
more, we will first have to discipline ourselves. We will have to

respect Mother Nature. We will

have to accept that somewhere,
something exists that rules us. We
ought to obey the rules.
Every religion and culture
consist of morals and ideals to regulate our relationship with nature.
Along with the directive elements
there are provisions to criticize
and punish those who dont
respect the Almighty's creation.
In order to develop a stable and
suitable attitude towards the environment and for the development
of a healthy universal family concept, we have to awaken our conscience. For this a universal code
of conduct specifically for the environment is required. This will provide the human soul with an eternal vision toward nature and its
creative capacities. Through this,
the amalgamation of physical facts
and spiritual ideals will occur.
Through these holy thoughts we
can incorporate the values
required for the promotion of a
peaceful world family in the future
generations, which will boost the
revolution ahead.

My name is Pannalal Debasi, and I am native of Pali

district in Rajasthan. At present, I reside with my
family in Tamil Nadu. The weather here is quite
humid which does not suit those people who come
from outer areas. They live with severe problems.
Every winter, my wife Rukmini is prone to coughs
and colds. Along with this she has a tendency to
catch a fever. She also had breathing problems.
Asthma has caused her serious problems. We went
for every treatment, but all in vain. At last after
viewing your yoga programme we got inspired for
the yoga and pranayama. Rukmini does parnayama
regularly. It has relieved her asthma and cough-cold
problems. Many thanks to you Swamiji

healed my incurable wound
Respected Swamiji,
I am 55 years old. After working for 30 years with
the Mumbai Mahanagar Palika, I am now propagating yoga. Majesty, I had a wound in my leg which
did not heal despite undergoing many treatments. I
finally went to the yog- village of Patanjli Yogpeeth
for treatment. In January 2010, my treatment began
under the guidence of Dr Nagendra Niraj. I was
using the wheelchair to move around. The natural
and accupressure treatment did give me relief. Now,
I have started walking slowly. After two weeks, my
wound got better than expected. The natural treatment centre of yoga-gram is a unique healing centre where patients are cured with due care.

Pranayama and medicines of

Yogapeeth cured my anemia
Respected Swamiji,
My name is Nehru Ram (ex-Armyman). I am a
native of Kangda, Himachal Pradesh. In 2003 my
wife got affected by a desease called plastic anemia.
Since then it became routine for us to visit the hospital almost every month. She required 2 to 3 units
of blood every time. Her blood haemoglobin level
was quite low. She was getting treated at a hospital
but it was not possible to get cured here. We then
went to DMC Ludhiana, where one months treatment cost us more than a lakh. There was no relief
after spending that much, so we returned home.
The problems were persistent. I then took her to the
Army Hospital in New Delhi. They conducted several tests, but there was no relief. Finally they
referred her to AIIMS. There they said that this illness has no treatment but they gave me some solace by assuring me that they would try their level
best. Her treatment at AIIMS cost us 2 lakh. But
here too she got no relief. Instead, my wife got
weaker as the days passed. We decided to end the
treatment and return home. Naturally we were
depressed at that time. Then, a relative told me
about you. I then told my wife to practice
Pranayama while watching your programme.
Acharya Balkrishna gave us precious advice about
medicines. Through his guidance we started taking
medicines of Patanjali Yogapeeth. After six month
there were some signs of improvement. This was a
glimmer of hope for us. She regularly does
Pranayama. And now, the doctors have said that all
her reports are normal. Guruji it all happened
through your grace, along with Pranayama and
medication of Patanjali Yogapeeth. We shall remain
grateful to you forever.
Yours truly,

Nehru Ram

Ramdev and controversy always have something to do with each other. The first
controversy erupted when communist leader Vrinda Karat alleged that he used
bones in his medicines. With every controversy Baba has emerged clean, his image becoming better

subject for everyone. Followers of multinational companies and corrupt individuals are most apprehensive. In the Bofors case, V. P. Singh uprooted the Rajiv Gandhi government only through honesty.

phase when everyone sang praises

for Baba and his yoga. But his sudden announcement has changed
their tunes.
Based on the elimination of diseases, wrongdoings and corruption,
Babas arrow seems to be hitting
the bull's eye. Those who treat politics like their personal property are
feeling the heat. In fact, Baba thinks
that by yoga and Pranayama we
can overcome the illness and eradicate the cancer of corruption. He is
vigilantly taking every step. But the
sound of these steps are leaving
many people sleepless. It reflects in
the comments and speeches from
the corridor of politics. Lets talk
abut the Congress first. Last month
Yoga Week was celebrated in Delhi.
Baba Ramdev was knowingly kept
away in this fucntion that was sponsored by the Government of Delhi.
Here one should note that this progamme was organised after the
Haridwar function, which Gulham
Nabi was a special part of. Baba's
supporters found this to be unsual.
But political pundits have correctly
identified it as part of a calculated
strategy. Keping in mind the path
on which Baba is marching, this
seems true.
The Congress has remained
mum about this incident. Mayawati,
on the other hand, seems set for a
direct confrontation. She has publically said that 'those teaching aerobics, have political ambitions.' She

politicians have

campaign and
simultaneously
they are doing
everything to lure
their vote bank
and keep them
intact.

We talked for quite long. I said to

him that revolution should be a
collective process with peace as its
aim. I also said that Maoism is
incomplete without spiritualism.
To achieve success both should be
merged. Then only we can have a
better result. He wholeheartedly
accepted my vision.

?
Some time back Laloo Yadav
said that you should not join
politics and you have gone
crazy. He also said that when
you were in the controversy
for mixing bones in medicines,
it was him who saved you.

Swami ji
I dont know what did he say. It is
true that allegations were there
against me. I am grateful to all who
stood up for me. It was my honesty
and truthfulness that saved me. As
long as these virtues are with me
no one can do any harm to me. But
the day they are lost, no one can
save me also. As far as opposition
is concerned, I do not have any
political advisor. Barring corrupt
and dishonest people, everyone is
happy with my approach.

?
BJP says that you should join
their party. They fear that you
will snatch their vote bank. It

seems that political parties are

fearing you.

Swami ji
I am not against any party or person. I only want responsible, honest and diligent people to join politics. If our leaders become honest,
politics would be purified, my goal
will be achieved. Then we won't
require to enter politics.

?
What ideology will your party
be following and what are
your three major objectives?

Swami ji
Our party will work on the theory
of total and spiritual growth. For
nation building, two things are
very important national character
and national leadership. We are
neither Leftist or rightist nor proWest like Congress. Our main aim
is to bring 30 million crore of black
money back to India, deposited in
foreign banks. Our second aim is
to have a law with the provisions
for capital punishment for corrupt,
adulterators and terrorists. Our
third aim is to change malicious
policies of the British.

?
But most countries oppose the
provision of capital punishment.

Swami ji

You term gay

sex as
unnatural.
Celibacy is
also
unnatural.
Swami ji
Every specie in
this world engage
in sex to give
birth to children.
Problems occur
when we have
sex for
enjoyment.
Normally our
children do not
indulge in sex till
the age of 25. Is it
unnatural? And
celibacy is
natural. The thing
which is there for
24 hours and
does not require
any assistance, is
natural.
Whenever an
external push is
required, it
becomes a
distortion. Love is
natural but to
hate is unnatural.
So how a normal
thing can be
unnatural?

A true saint is recognised 99% by
his character and one per cent by
his clothes. Keep your mind open
before making anyone your guru.
Test him logically and rationally,
then only jump to any conclusion.
In many countries, including
China, such provisions are still
there. Our ancestors used this as a
tool to purify an evil soul. Hence,
we also want to make them free
for their well-being.

?
You did not mention the Naxal
issue. Recently they killed
many innocent people.

Swami ji
What do you think
of article 370 and
Babri MasjidAyodhya issue?

Swami ji
Our main aim is to
build the nation.
When that aim will
be achieved, the
Muslim brethren will
themselves say, lets
construct the temple
on the controversial

also believe Lord

The temporary solution to this

problem is to make them weaponless, either through dialogue or

lies in development. This development will come only when there is
no corruption. No MNREGA will

in the system. Even the Sarva
Shiksha Abhiyan will work as
Sarva Bhiksha Abhiyan.

?
You are accepted by all parties,
religions and community. Why
do you want to join politics?

Swami ji
That is why I have joined politics.
Honest people from all sections
are joining me. Also, I will continue working toward character
building through yoga in future.
Politics is an additional job.

?
Recently, many so-called sages
and saints have been exposed.
People have started doubting
every Sanyasi. So how do we
recognise the real guru?

?
You talk of boycotting foreign
language and companies.
Dont you think this will push
our country back to dark age?

Swami ji
We want to use globalisation to
increase our power. Worldwide,
our country is seen as a market.
We want to use the world and not
to be used by them. And for investment capital, we will bring back
money deposited in foreign banks.
We have vast and skilled human
resource. We require only one per
cent of technology. I think globalisation is an illusion. We also want
our education system to be in our
language. If Japan, Germany and
Spain can do that, why cant we?

?
How will you ensure that honest people join the movement?

Swami ji
Honesty finds honesty. At present
one million people are working
with us at ground level. Millions of
other supporters have joined the
mission. All of them will be in only
after character verification.

?
The Women Reservation Bill
was raised in the Parliament.
What is your opinion on allotting tickets to women?

Swami ji
Yes, of course! Women are our creators. In our mission, 50% women
are working with us.

the readers of Yoga Sandesh, we are publishing the series of

Elixir For
explaination of Geeta by Swami Ramdev ... Editor

Discussing Arjunas
problems through
Sankya Marga

A
Discussing Arjunas problems while
keeping differences between body and
the soul in mind: Sankhya-Marga means
the path of knowledge. In this chapter,
Arjun's problems have been discussed in
detail in the shlokas beginning from 11 to
30, through the Sankyan philosophy. It
treats Prakriti and Purush as different entities, here also Deha (body) and Dehi (soul)
have been explained separately. Lord
Krishna has explained two principles in
the light of Sankhya from Shloka 31 to 38
and has dealt with third principle,
Swadharma. The first principle is that soul
is immortal and eternal. The second theory
explains: just like when man enters various stages of life, i.e. childhood, youth
and old age, in the sameway, the
soul also leaves body only to
acquire a new one. For example, it is like changing into
new clothes and leaving
the older clothes behind.
Water, fire and air cannot

Swami
Ramdev

affect it. About body it is said that since it

is mortal, theres no point worrying for it.
Hence, dear Arjuna! Consider it in this way
as your worries will go in vain. Both Atma
and Body are based on the priciples of
Sankhya philosophy.

B
Discussing Arjunas problem while
keeping Swadharma in mind: Lord
Krishna explained the third principle of
Swadharma to Arjuna, as discussed in
shlokas 31 to 38. According to Geeta,
everyone has to perform Dharma. Here,
the term dharma has nothing to do with
the philosophies of Hinduism, Islam or
Christianity, in fact, it is synonym to ones
nature or attitude. If a person with brahmin attitude will do business, he will
always suffer loss. To fight a war is
Kshatriyas dharma, so, Arjuna you should
do your duty. If someone abstains from his
duties then he is committing a sin.
Therefore, performing duties are must.
Since you are a Kshatriya, then be prepared for a war.

Considering Arjunas
problems in the
light of yoga.
As it has already been discussed in
earlier contexts that Arjuna is mere representation of a common man. Lord Krishna
has addressed all possible issues related to
a common man in Geeta. Arjunas problems were related to war, whereas ours
pertain to lifes battleground. Every passing second is a challenge in itself. One
solution to such problems have been
answered according to Sankhya, which

18 YOG SANDESH June 2010

clearly states that body is mortal and soul

is eternal, so always keep performing your
basic dharma. However, the second solution has been provided by Yoga drishti.
That is karma Yogas vision. We shall
explain it further.

A
Distinction between Karmkanda ritual
and Karmayoga: Once upon a time, India
was dominated by rituals. People thought
that through sacrifices all desires could be
fulfilled. Lots of sacrifices were made just
for the sake of a desire. People tried to
fulfill every desire by means of Yagya. But
Mundakopnishad raised voice against such
rituals. According to the second volume
(verse seven) of this Upanishad - it has
been said that to cross the ocean of yagyas,
there are tools but they are very pliant and
loose. Foolish man pursues Yagya to be the
only means and celebrates, they come
again again in this cycle of life and death
and are caught in the trap. Krishna says.
By Karmayoga, I do not mean to say that
through rituals people want to reap the
fruit of paradise, they are caught in the
pleasures. So, Oh Arjuna! You cannot solve
your problems with this thinking. What
was Karmkanda at the time of Upanishads
and Geeta has now 'naturalism' or materialism. Today, we accomplish our desires
through scientific inventions. Both
approaches are the same. Geeta states that
solution to the human problems cannot be
achieved via Karmakanda.

B
Karmayoga: Then how can the problems of life be solved? According to Geeta,
the solution lies in 'Karmayoga'. It has

been explained in verses 39 to 53, Chapter

II of Geeta. According to Sankhya, Yoga
means Karmsananyas," i.e. sacrifice of
Karma. By considering that soul is eternal,
body is earthy; then why we crave so much
for this transitory body. Geetas definition
of 'Karmayoga' means not only to work but
live life according to the teachings of
Geeta. Today also, it imparts same message that was given to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Likewise, in the
battle of life, everyone is Arjuna and has to
face harsh circumstances and situations of
despair. However, the question is what is
Karmayoga and Karmsananyas? The
answer is- Karmayoga means abandonment of attachment. There are three concepts of karma: (1) If we have to sacrifice
the results, then why one should do Karma?
(2) To do Karma and take the result as
your own. (3) Perform the action but dont
expect results. First approach is Tamoguni,
second is Rjoguni and the third is Satvaguni.
Tamoguni says, if Ill get results only when
I will perform otherwise why to take pain.
Rajoguni says, I will do karma and will get
fruit. Satvguni karma says- Ill perform,
but will not hope for the fruit. Like
Tamoguni we cannot turn our back to
actions and like Rjoguni monopoly over
result cannot be proved. This sort of coordination paves way for Karmayoga.

Tatra pratyayektanata Dhyanam

(Yoga3\2)

To have almighty in heart with Ektanata, steady

flow is called Dhyana. When a river enter asea
both become one. Similarly in the phase of dhyana there remains
no sense of anything other than the almighty. We dissolve into the
mesmerising aura of Parmeshwara.

Method of

When a river

In the same
way, one will
be able to

omniscient
pleasure and
state through
meditation

Dhyana (meditation) is associated

with our lives. Each moment is
attached to it. In Indian culture, it
compliments our every action. So,
whether at home or with family, we
always experience it in some way
or other. For example, when an
elderly person advises us to read or
walk carefully with attention, it is
dhayana. Today we use this word
but dont bother about its meaning.
We could not gain any physical and
spiritual goal or success without
Dhyana. Though meditation is in
itself is a wonderful process. We
shall try to throw light on some of
the methods of dhyana briefly.

Guidelines for Dhyana

[1]
Before beginning with Dhyana, one
should always practice Pranayama.
This makes mind calm and increases concentration. Calm mind is the
key to Dhyana or Dharana.
[2]
By doing Kapalbhaati and Anulom
- Vilom - Pranayama methodically,
mind becomes balanced and subjectless automatically. About five
minutes of Kapalaati and 5-10 minutes of Anulom - Vilom Pranayama
embodies the divine cycle of
Mooladhaar. It starts to go up, it
refines the cycles of our veins. In a
divine Jyotipunj (array of light),
Sachchidanand gets located in
the heart.

Give Dhyana an immense importance while practicing it. Dont let

any idea prevail in mind no matter
how good it is. Donation, to do service, to care for guru and to indulge
in cow service and philanthropy- all
are sacred things. While Dhyana do
not think of them also. Let your
mind indulge only in God, meditation or contemplation.

One should
practice
meditation at
least for an
hour every day

[4]
While meditating, your mind and
senses should become introvert, in
fact, remember this too that you are
not the part of nature, wealth, land,
buildings and are free of any emotional bond like wife, son or grandson. This body is also not my nature
and I am free from senses like
touch, form, taste, smell and rasa. I
feel free from lust, anger, greed,
infatuation etc. they are not
ruling me. I am also free from
panchkleshas like ignorance, pride,
passion, resentment and abhinivesh. I am a part of anandmayay,
prakashmayay,
shantimayay,
paramsukhmayay,
triguntatit,
bahawatit (above emotions),
Shuddhsatva. I Amritputra. Just
like a single drop of water is incomplete, similarly, I cannot live without the ocean of contentment.i. e.
The almighty God. He is the creator
of life, vitality, strength, speed,
light, peace, happiness and all that
is available to us. He has provided
us strength, birth, age body and
mind and all that which is necessary to lead a smooth life. Lord's
peace and prosperity are around
me. Not even for a second, the ultimate protector dissociates from me.
I am always in the Lord and the
Lord is always in me. This is called
Tadatamya Bhava. Lord will always
bless us with enjoyment forever. If
we still do not enjoy it, then it's our
own fault.

Policies Our villages are affected by government's policies, regimes and black money

based economy. People are forced to face poverty, illiteracy and migration.
Unfortunately, India is divided into Shining India, and poor India. How true, Swaraj is
possible without Gram Swaraj? Only through Gramodaya Rashtrodaya is possible.
Everyone from Gandhi to Tilak,
Gokhale, Shahide-azam Bhagat
Singh Azad and Bismil believed
that Indias freedom will be completed only when millions of its villages become independent and
powerful. By adopting the path of
Swadeshi (Indigenous), we can
make our country powerful.
We have planned to make every
village an ideal at primary level by
May-June this year.
We shall take it to next level by
the end of this year. Our brief

Healthy village through

regular Yoga
We will constitute Bharat
Swabhiman unit in every village.
We will teach Yoga at the appropriate
place available- be it
Dharmshala, Panchayat Bhawan,
Temple,
Mosque,
Church,
Deosthana, or village pond. Along
with Yoga,
there shall be
Pranayama, Satsanga, self exploration teachings and discussion about
nation building. It will create a
healthy village across the country.

Organised Villages
through Membership
campaign.
We cannot achieve a big target
without being organised.
Bharat Swabhiman which aims
to change the system has a plan to
unite all village and cities through a
membership campaign. Whole
nation is under the campaign. By
organising them, we want to get rid
of diseases and corruption. In place
of these healthy, righteous and
powerful Bharat Nirman will come
into existence. Thats our goal.
[3]

Herb Gardens
Knowledge of indigenous medicines our aim to have herbs like
giloy, tulsi, aloe vera, amla, neem,
pattharachata, aswagandha in
houses, courtyards, farmlands,
schools, colleges and temples etc.
Hence people will come to know
about their properties and usage.
We want this affordable, simple,
compact and powerful system to
get publicity so that people should
have the benefits of the same.
[04]

Toxin-free agriculture
Use of dangerous chemical fertilisers and pesticide-free domestic fertilisers like indigenous fertilisers
and animal gobar or urine along
with hybrid seed will make our
farmers healthy and prosperous.
Then the real dream of India will be
achieved. Today, nearly Rs 7 trillion
is spent over medicines to cure cancer, tuberculosis, asthma, sugar and
BP, which are majorly caused by the

use of pesticides. Peasants spend

around 80 % on fertilisers and pesticides. Farmers are committing
suicide due to high cost and low
yield phenomenon. We are slowly
being forced towards diseases
caused by toxins and pesticides. We
are being pushed into a slow death.
With indigenous agriculture, we
will have low-cost yields first and
then will gradually have low-cost
and high yields. We will provide
reasonable organic products to the
markets.
[05]

Plantation
Trees are our lifeguards. Our survival and protection against calamities, including drought, floods,
fierce heat other severe problems could only be tackled with plantation of trees and conversation of
environment. We have ruthlessly
cut trees around villages and forests. As a result, we are at present
facing problems like lack of rainfall
pattern and climate change. Gold,
silver, luxury cars and high-rise
buildings are those things which we
can buy any moment in the name of
development and luxury. But the
trees on which our based grow in at
least 15 to 20 years. So, lets make a
resolution to sow a plant on every
auspicious occasion like birthday,
wedding anniversary and holy festivals. Gift medicinal plants and
herbs like neem, arjuna, amla, giloy
and basil to your family and friends
on every joyous occasions. This will
save our future generations and
India will have a bright future.

on regular basis and will be able to
achieve complete wellness and prosperity and peace. Moreover, our villages will prosper and opportunities
will flow in the form of education,
develpoment and employment. This
will also bring in new revolution and
migration issue will also be resolved.
We will ensure that our farmers,
poor labourers and craftsmen also
get same status as doctors and engineers both in terms of work and
economy.
[06]

[09]

Water Management

Disease and addiction-free

village

Conservation of rainwater and

selection of scientific methods to
sow crop will help. For example,
in areas with lower water levels,
one can avoid sowing sugarcane
and other paddy crops. With the
help of Shramdan and mutual cooperation, we will be able to ensure
that water for villages and water for
irrigation purposes can be utilised
for it only. We will have to ensure
that methods of rainwater harvesting schemes are utilised properly,
so that descending water level can
be balanced. For this, we need individual and collective efforts.
Availability of per capita water is on
decline and if we will not address
this then conflicts will arise.
[07]

Village Parliament
Truth can only be achieved in the
villages, if Gram Sabha takes all
decisions for the betterment of villages and the correct decisions are
implemented with full transparency
by Gram Panchayat. This will bring
true Swarajaya in villages with the
help of developmental work. In
fact, our villages will be corruptionfree. And the dream to establish a
powerful India can be achieved
with the support of Gramodaya
and Rashtroday.
[08]

Village Sanitation
Both hygiene and health go hand in
hand and absence of any other factor can lead to the loss of total well
being. Every house, street and village can be healthy and 99 per cent

be eradicated completely and people will be able to lead a pious and
healthy life. There shall be no space
for addiction and other internal
weaknesses. For de-addiction, villagers should quit alcohol, tobacco
and other addictions. Then only we
will be able to restore healthy and
prosperous villages.
[10]

Independent Villages by
swadeshi
Foreign merchandises, medicines,
food, fertilisers and oils are costing
15 to 20 lakh crore per year. We will
have to take the path of swadeshi to
save money, resources and culture
of India and adapt self sustainable
approach to meet our requirements.
With the help of swadeshi, India will
soon become a great economic
power of the world. We shall oppose
foreign products and encourage use
of village made products to be used
aroud the same. Therefore, we will
be able to make each village and
district free from foreign products.

will fell your breathing on the front
of your nose. Gradually you will
feel deep breathing. Thus for some
time breathing with the sense of
watcher (The witness) and chanting Omkar you will automatically
touch the height of meditation. This
is called sahaj yoga for you. While
meditating, a seeker unifies himself
with nature and divine and becomes
sachchidanand. He enjoys the
unique divine world and reaches
the stage of samadhi. Any practitioner should go to bed concentrating
in the above said manner. By doing
so, his sleep will also become
Yogmayi. In his entire life of the
seeker will become Yogmayi.
[9]
Thus each Mumukshoo(one who
craves for Moksha) should chant,
meditate and worship for at least an
hour a day. By doing this, he gets
relief from all types of sorrows. We
shall always remember that the
chief aim of our life should be selfexploration and visualisation of the
almighty. All remaining tasks
and goals are secondary. According
to a Sage of the Upanishad, if we
are not marching on this very path
then Mahti Vinshti is inevitable. So
yoga and meditation are requirement of our lives.

Today I am going to narrate a story of Shravan Kumar,

who was completely devouted to his parents. His parents were blind but they had a gifted son like him. Since childhood
Shravan Kumar was peace loving, virtuous and gentle. There was no one
who was not fond of him. Apart from these qualities, he had a unique
speciality. He was ultimate Bhkta(devotee) of his parents. He adored
them and use to pay his regards by touching their feets. Then only he
used to indulge in other works.

Shravan Kumar used to offer
water to his parents whenever they
felt thirsty and used to provide
them with anything they desired
for. In the evening too, he comforted them by pressing their feet; simply considering that he gave them
his service in the same manner as
Mahatma Dilip did Go- seva(service
to the cow). Once Shravan Kumar
was leaving his parents to bring
water. At the same time, King
Dashrath was alos hunting. Hearing
his voice during the course of taking water, Dhasrath misunderstood
him to be a wild animal and he
killed him by an arrow. After that
he fell to the ground and said, "Oh,
Lord! What crime had I done? Why
my condition is so; Now who will
take care of my parents?" After
hearing this, Dasharatha was
shocked and asked him, "Who are
you?" He told everything about his
blind parents and then said, "My
parents are waiting for me. They
are blind and are thirsty. Hearing
this, the king apologised, Shravan
forgive him and asked him to fetch
water for his thirsty parents.
Because its already too late. Go and
seek their forgiveness. Dashrath
became very nervous and
approached the elderly couple with
water. As soon as he reached them,
the couple thought that Sharavan
had come back and said, "Son! You
took very long. We are thirsty and
were afraid where has the helping
hand of elderly is gone?" On hearing this, Dashrath greeted them
with folded hands said, "I'm

Ayodhyas King Dashrath. I was

hunting in the jungle. Your son was
filling water for you. I tricked an
arrow at by mistake and your son is
dead." After hearing this, they both
wept furiously and said, "Now who
will take care of us; who will shoulder us?" The king offered them the
water but they refused and asked
him to take them to the spot where
he had killed Shravan. He took
them on shoulders to the spot where
Shravan was lying dead. It was
impossible for them control their
grief and cursed Dashrath: "As we
will die weeping for our son, your
fate will also be the same." So, you
should behave as instructed by

heart is a significant part of our body and
life. It energises our body. It is immensely
affected by our lifestyle and eating pattern.

Carefully read the points given

below to keep heart attacks and
heart related problems. Accordingly
practice, it is very beneficial:

According to
Ramdev Ji :
Gourd and Amla
juice is good for
heart diseases.
(Mix 2-3 pepper
corns and 5-7
basil leaves in it)
Goli and

good for heart

Clean teeth also keeps heart disease and strokes at bay. It was
reported by Italy's and British's
researchers and another researcher
Vijman Gorald. Therefore, brush
teeth both in the morning and
before retiring to bed at night.
Due to obesity, the chances of a
heart attack also increases. It was
found out, after a research was conducted on 21094 men in last 20
years by American scientists.
According to the research at
Houston University Health sciences
centre, egg consumption increases
attack risk by 23 per cent.
Vegetarian diet (i.e. fruits- vegetables) has potassium, magnesium
and calcium in large quantity, therefore, heart failure risk in vegetarians is low. This was found by Dr.
Mark C. Houston and researcher,
Dr. Kaeren J. Harper during the
research.
Listening to soft music also
decreases bad cholesterol and
improves hearts health, according
to the researchers from the US and
Heart Care Foundation of India
(ICFI).
Smoking increases heart attack
risk by 54 per cent. This was found
in Britain during the research.
Execessive secretion of 'testosterone hormone' is also responsible
for heart attack.
Meditation reduces the 'serotonin'
volume which is good for the heart,
kidneys and digestive system.

reason of Sachin Tendulkar's energy
to play cricket. While on July 9, 1995,
when Wimbledon finals were being

health tonic. Nowadays it has become
a trend to take medicines without
having any disease. After taking
Becosules or Becozyme, the colour of
urine becomes dark yellow. Intestines
digest the unnecessary drugs and it
comes out in the form of urine. You
spent the money; stomach, liver and
kidneys worked harder but you
gained nothing. In fact, companies
benefitted. The invigorating tonics
that do not cost more than Rs 20 are
sold from Rs 40 to Rs 200.
About 90 per cent of the Indian
pharmaceutical industry has been
captured by foreign multinational
companies. Of the 84,000 medicines
present in the market, only 117 are of
our use. The rest are useless. From
these useless drugs, the MNCs are
making 20,00 per cent profit. The
same drug is being sold in the market
under 40 different names. 90 per cent
of such tonics have no utility in our
lives, instead they have ill-effects on
our body.
These companies are selling those
drugs in our country that have already
been banned and declared poisonous. Some drugs that have been prohibited for long in other countries are
being sold indiscriminately in India.
When the pharmaceutical companies
sensed that developed countries are
banning their toxic and lethal drugs
then suddenly they shifted the focus
toward poor and developing countries. The companies took the advantage and opened more factories at
will. In these nations legal restrictions are nothing but paper tiger. The
MNCs keep carrying out some
research in India or other developed
countries, which increases the threat
of chronic diseases.
Organisation of Pharmaceutical
Producers of India that represents
big MNCs, has warned that if the
government does not change its policies, then in the coming years drugs
like Rifampicin, Paracetamol,
Chloramphenicol, Ethambutol, and
Tetracycline will disappear from the
market. These drugs are used to treat
leprosy, typhoid, TB and other acute
diseases. Due to OFPI's threat, the
government should not forgive the
companies that are breaking the
rules. Strict vigilance is required to
stop the malpractices under the name
of health tonics

openly violate the Indian
laws. The Indian government on June 15, 1988, issued a special gazette notification 11018/1/88
DMSPFA. Under this notification,
medicines made from drugs like
estrogen-progesterone and
Chloramphenicol-streptomycin were
completely banned. But these medicines are still being sold in the market by the multinational companies.
All such medicines have ill-effects on
women especially. If consumed by
pregnant women, a handicapped
child can be born. These drugs also
disturb their menstrual cycle. These
dangerous medicines are sold under
the names of EPFort, Menstrogen
forte, Orsechron forte and Oglutin.

MNCs

Similarly, on July 23, 1983, the

Central government issued a gazette
notification 11014/2/83 DMSPFA
under which 27 types of basic drugs
were banned. But still some of them
are still available in the market. They
are sold under the names Analgesic,
Achromycin, Terramycin, Decabolen,
Histapred, Paracort, Perodran etc.
On Dec 26, 1990 and in 1991, the
ordinances issued by the Central government stated ban on 15 generic
drugs. But some of them are still
being sold under the name of Buta
Proxyvon, Carbuterol, Balagesic,
Veganin, Fortegesic, Montorip,
Dicaris, Zefral, Lupihist, Tixilis,
Corex, Tribusin and Dristran. These
companies have ridiculed the law.
Even the government has closed its
eyes to the matter. Many dangerous
scams are being operated in pharmaceutical industry under the aegis of
government and bureaucracy.

STAY
HEALTHY
BY RASAHAAR

is a nutritious diet. It is equally suitable for children, young and the old people. But what is it
that makes Rasahaar beneficialt for weak and sick people?
Experts say that when we drink the juices of fruits and vegetables,
then our digestive system absorbs 95 per cent of the nutrients. To
get rid of weakness, doctors also advise fruits and vegetable juice.
There is no doubt that with little intake of vegetable and fruit juice
one can attain nutritions and energy to fight diseases.

Rasahaar

The question regarding the intake

amount of vegetable and fruit juice
is asked by many people. Some
people drink juices at home and
some drink them at the juice corners in the market so as to avoid
the effort of peeling, cutting and
extracting the juice from fruits and
vegetables. As far as health is concerned, one should avoid them as
they are not hygienic and clean.
Some juice vendors use stale fruits
and vegetables to earn more profit.
We should take proper care while
drinking juices from outside. When
the fruits and vegetables are cut
and kept for long time, they not
only lose their nutrition but also
form harmful germs as with more
time chemical composition changes. Juice also starts reacting chemically when kept in steel utensils,
also making them poisonous. So,
one should consume juices immediately after extracting them.
When the salad consisting of
onion, carrot, radish, cucumber and
lemon kept in a steel utensil is consumed 30-40 minutes after being
cut, it tastes little bitter. This is due
to chemical reaction between lemon
juice and steel. Even if the fruit and
vegetable juices are refrigerated

Yoga is where the soul meets

the centre of our self-consciousness
(swachetna) and transcendental
consciousness (parachetna), leading to the ultimate consciousness God. When man is immersed in
samyakbodha and his heart is filled
with vairagyabhav, he surpasses
all kinds of ephemeral desires and

There are five states of Chitta kschipt, murha, vikshipt, ekagra

and consumed later, they lose their

quality and harm the body.
Sugarcane juice should be consumed immediately as it starts losing its nutritious value.
Before extracting juices, the
mixer or the juicer should be
cleaned thoroughly. And should be
washed after the use. If the mixer/
juicer is used again without cleaning, it starts reacting chemically.
And the chemicals get mixed with
the juice and harm the body.

Types of Yoga

Packed juices have also become

very
popular
these
days.
Preservatives are mixed to keep
them safe. Tetra juice packs are
packed at high temperatures
because of which they lose their
vitamins and nutritious value.
The carotene is found in the
form of Vitamin-A in fruits and vegetables. According to the scientists,
if any extract is kept for some time
then the carotene loses its value
after being in contact with the air.
Carrot loses its Vitamin A in 15-20
minutes after it is cut into pieces.
Orange, lemon and other citrus
fruits also lose their vitamins in
20-25 minutes after they have been
cut into pieces.
Fruits and vegetables should be
washed properly as chemicals and
pesticides are sprinkled on them.
On grapes and mangoes, carbide is
used in the ripening process.
If you suffer from anemia, you
should consume fruits that help in
forming blood. Iron helps in blood
formation and pomegranate, oranges, tomatoes and others are such
fruits.
Vegetables and fruits consumed
in the form of salad helps in constipation. Never eat fruits and vegetables on empty stomach.
Many people are unsure of the
juice intake amount. Adding rock
salt, black pepper and lemon makes
them more tasty. 200 grams juice is
enough for a healthy body.
A pregnant lady should consult
the doctor before taking juice.
Infants can take 2-3 spoon, and 150
grams of juice is enough for 10-12
years old children. Avoid drinking
juice at night, especially in winter.

It is better to
drink juice half
an hour after
the lunch. Sip
it slowly...
It helps in the
formation of
saliva and
activates salivary
glands. Juice
after in contact
with the saliva
helps in the
digestion of
sugar. That is
why fruit juices
are easily
digestible.

IMPACT
OF YOGA
ON HUMAN BODY
word Yoga has appeared umpteen times in our scriptures such as the Gita, Vedas, and Puranas. Yoga has
been an integral part of Indian philosophy, and is among the six
most important of all Indian philosophies. Yogashastra appeared
200 years before Christ, with Maharshi Patanjali being credited
for the development of Yogsadhna.

The

Prof.(Dr.)
Ravindranath
Mishra.

From self realisation and meditation to real life work, the importance of yoga and its wider applications have been described in
detail in our Sastras. Maharshi
Patanjali terms yoga as Chitvriti
Nirodha' (Suppression of Chitvriti).
Praman, Viparyaya, Vikalp, Nidra
and Smruti are five Vritiyas that
are in sync with Mana through the
practice of Vairagya. When Mana
is in total sync with the soul, one is
said to be in the state of yoga.
Maharshi Vyas considers yoga
to be synonymous with meditation.
We can surmise that by meditating
and having complete control over
ourselves, in order for the soul to
meet God (when Atma meets
Parmatma) is called yoga.

In Dattatrya Yogshasta and Yograj

Upniasad, four types of yoga have
been described. These are
Mantrayoga, Layayoga, Hathyoga,
and Rajyoga.
[1]
Mantrayoga:
Chanting
the
matrakadiyukta mantra for 12
years, helps you attain siddhi like
the anima stage.
[2]
Layayoga: Remembering God during daily work.
[3]
Hathyoga: To increase concentration power of mana through various mudra, asnas and pranayam.

Swami Ramdevji
Maharaj has
freed people of
all castes,
communities and
religions from
diseases through
eight packages
of yoga and yogik
jogging.

He has
scientifically
proved that yoga
has positive
impact on body.

[4]
Rajyoga: Cleansening the psyche
through the practice of YamaNiyamadi.
Maharshi Patanjali has concentrated on Astang Yoga, describing
it in his yogasutras.

Meaning of yoga is realisation of self-consciousness

Yoga aims at developing our
inner strength to reach God and
attain enlightenment. Indian saints
have described various methods in
this process. Astangyoga helps
develop our hidden strength. Yoga
makes our nervous system strong,
which improves our blood circulation immensely.
Yogasan helps in complete
development of body, mind and
spirit. It helps us in attainging the
ultimate consciousness and experiencing the joy of completeness.

A unique

Therapy of Ayurveda

Kayakalp
Vaidya Satya Prakash Mishra
Patanjali Yogapeeth, Haridwar

is difficult to be born as a human. Considering the fact, people

in the ancient times conceptualised the theory of longevity. They
formulated rules involving daily routine, season cycle, food habits, and
made a hypothesis to live hundred years.

IT

pashyem sharad: shat, om shrunuyaam sharad: shatam. pravnaam sharad:

shatmadinan shyam sharad: shant
bhuyasc sharad: shataat!!
We should see for hundred years,
live for hundred years, hear for hundred years, speak for hundred years
and live happily for 100 years.
Ayurveda has developed many
means to protect the human body,
Kayakalp is one of them. Kayakalp
itself defines its meaning; through
this therapy body changes its beauty, intelligence and energy stamina.
A body that is sick and weak
becomes beautiful, intelligent and
powerful by all means.
'Kalp' means 'specific yog', 'specific plan' and to discipline the body
through specific activities. In modern society, Kayakalp is needed
most as the society is in the throes
of diseases like cancer, AIDS, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease. The
body has become a temple of diseases. Kayakalp is a difficult and
expensive process but the results
are amazing. In today's world, when
the nervous system breaks down,

Kayakalp gives a miraculous effect.

There are two types of methods to
use this therapy. (1) Kuti Praveshik
(indoor) and (2) Vattapik (outdoor).
In this fast life, the first method has
become impractical.
The first task is to choose an
eligible person for rejuvenation.
That person should be devoid of
mental and physical problems. He
should be either young or middleaged. Kayakalp should not be practiced at an early or old age. Here we
shall discuss about outdoor methods that can be practiced easily.
This method is easily accessible
and can be adopted in synchronisation with our daily routine. But it is
necessary that the person is morally
good behaved, i.e. he must follow
the chemistry of ethics. While following 'ethics chemistry,' one has to
consume some chemicals for longevity, sound memory and intelligence. The person also becomes
physically smart and young.
Kayakalp is considered very
useful and can be practiced in any
season. When a person becomes
physically weak in middle-age, his
sexual dysfunction can be cured by
using this practice. His sperm
count, neurological condition and
staying power also improves. For
the same, high quality drugs are
available at Patanjali Yogpeeths
Divya Pharmacy. Regular practice
of Pranayama and eating nutritious
diet, including dates, walnuts,
almonds, milk and fruits also help.

delicious, soft and good for eyes. It is easily digestible,
helps in Abhishayandi, makes you smart, quick and
enhances your beauty. It clears voice, improves memory,
increases brain strength, helps in cough, is a symbol of
wealth, and gets rid of sins and disorders and illness.

Ghee

Acharya Charaka says that ghee is

best among melted butter, oil, and
other oils as it provides more energy, and is beneficial. Pure ghee
never leaves its properties and
also adapt to other good qualities. When the melted ghee is
treated with drugs like
Chitrak, then it becomes hot
but doesn't leave its qualities.
In accordance with different situations in different
countries, different people
domesticate different animals.
Acharya Bhavmishra talks about
the qualities of ghee produced by
different animals.
Cow ghee is auspicious, digestible, smells good and improves eye
sight. Buffalo's ghee is sweet, cool

and fresh, helps in cough, Pitta

problems and increases the sperm
count. As goat's ghee is bitter and
sour, it is useful in stomach inflammation, cough, breathing problems
and tuberculosis. The camels ghee
used in Rajasthan helps in removing phlegm, fights worms and poison, tackles leprosy and abdominal
disorders and tumour. The ghee
extracted from mountain sheep is
light by nature. It helps in all kinds
of diseases and is beneficial in bone
growth, stones, sugar, Vataa and
acidity problems. The ghee of mare
is also light. It is a toxin destroyer,
and is beneficial in eye diseases
and inflammation. The ghee
extracted from colostrum (first
milk) is equal to nectar and is beneficial for eyes, cough, Vataa and
blood related disorders.
Acharya Bhav Mishra says that
ghee is used in our food, for libation, hard work, xanthopsia and
curing eye diseases.
Acharya Charaka says that ghee
cures panacea, epilepsy, fatigue,
tuberculosis and artificial poisons.
It pacifies fever, yonishool, karnashool and shirashool.
Acharya Bhavprakash says that
ghee that is being stored for one
year destroys three kinds of disorders. It gives relief in hysteria,
epilepsy and improves vision defect.
As the time passes, ghee becomes
old and the older it is, the better is
the result. Its properties become
excellent.
Acharya Charaka says, the ghee
that is stored for 10 years, smells
heavily and is called puran ghee.
After 10 years, it becomes prapuran
which gives excellent result. It is
beneficial in hysteria, epilepsy and
fatigue. It gives best result when
rubbed at the temples.
Kaviraj Lolimbraj says that the
ghee is beneficial in skin disorders.
If used after being washed in cold
water for thousand times, it
provides relief in burning or inflammation.
Ghee should not be consumed
by infants and kids. Old people
should not use it when suffering
from any cough related disease,
Tuberculosis (particularly at the
last stage) or alcoholism. It is also
not to be used when suffering from
fever, low energy or any heart-related disease.

Similarly,
according to
the rule of

Charak says

Pradesh is a land of revolutionary activities. The Kakori train dacoity, where many lives were lost,
is an important incident.
Ramprasad Bismil of Shahjanpur, knew that nothing could be achieved through nonviolent struggle.
Revolutionaries who were involved in the Kakori dacoity gathered in Bismil house in 1924 to set their agenda. Their action plan was fixed in the second meeting. All those involved adopted new names. For instance,
Nawab, Gangaram, Kasilver. Asfaq Ullah, who usually was attired in a manner typical to Hindus, took up
the name Kunwarji.

The organisation, led by Ramprasad

and its members were already facing litigations in a Mainpuri conspiracy in which Gendalal Dixit
was the main acused. The organisation played an important role in
the Sherganj, Bichpuri and Mainpuri
dacoities. Revolutionaries stopped
a passenger train between
Alamnagar and Kakori station by
pulling the chain. An FIR was
lodged at 8:30 pm.
When train started from Kakori
at 7:15, four people entered the
break-van. Ramprasad asked the
guard to stop the train, who refused.
They threatened him with a revolver and tied him up. They then
stopped the train. As soon as the
train stopped, 16 others entered the
break-van and took away the cash
box. The box was thrown away
after taking the cash. Suspects
were arrested from different places
in Uttar Pradesh on 25 December,
1925.
Ramprasad
Bismil,
Rajendranath Lahiri and Roshan
Singh were among the 25 who
faced a court case. After preliminary investigations, the case was
transferred to the session court, on
16 April, 1926. The Lucknow session court opened the case on 1May,
1926. 20 of the accused were
chargesheeted, while five were let
off. Many of the accused were
absconding at the time, yet
chargesheets were filed against
them. Ramprasad Bismil was held
responsible for the Kakori and
Dwarkapur dacoity.
These court cases were prolonged for such a long time. In
protest, Ramprasad Bismil, Roshan
Singh and Rajendranath Lahiri
went on a hunger strike, which
halted the court proceedings. All
three were awarded the death sentence by the Lucknow session court,
while the others were given life
imprisonment, on 6 April, 1926.

Meanwhile Asfaqullah and his comrades were caught in Delhi in

September, 1926 and a separate
case was lodged against him. Legal
proceedings against him began on
22 April, 1926. Asfaqullah Khan
was also awareded the death sentence. All four were in different
jails, and thus separated. Ramprasad
Bismil was held in the Gorakhpur
jail, Roshan Singh at the Allahabad
jail, Rajendranath Lahiri was in the
Goda jail and Asfaqullah in the
Faijabad jail.
A mercy petition was filed to the
Viceroy, but it was rejected. The
four were informed that they would
be hanged on 12 October, 1927.
However, this had to be postponed
as one of the accused appealed at
the Privy Council and its hearing
was ongoing at the time, concluding in November, 1927. All jailers
were informed of the decision of
Privy Council, which upheld the
sentence. (1) Rajendranath Lahiri
was hanged on 17 October, 1927 at
the Gonda jail, (2) Asfaqullah and
(3) Ramprasad Bismil were hanged
on 19 December, 1927 at the
Faijabad and Gorakhpur jails
respectively.
Ramprasad Bismils life is an
example of courage and conviction.
His heart melted when he saw his
mother who came to meet him for
the last time. Her heart was full of
sorrow and eyes were brimming
with tears. He could not tolerate
seeing her in such a state. He
thought that his mother might think
he was afraid of death because he
too had tears in his eyes. He told his
mother that he had not expected
her to react in a tearful manner, but
to instead to accept his death as a
moment of extreme joy. His mother
realised her mistake and was soon
filled with a sense of pride.

Nonviolence
will not achieve
anything. The
revolution
requires dare
and blood.

said, Corruption is dominating political system and people

I thought of making a political party. He believes that he

Apart from the beauty of Baba

Ramdev's ashram, one thing that
attracted my attention was its security system. Crisply dressed guards
were deployed on every nook and
corner of the ashram. It gave us a
feel that we are at the house of
some big leader. People who are
close to Baba Ramdev claim that
Baba has threat from various quarters and not only one, therefore, he
has waged a campaign. Many
MNCs and cold-drink manufacturing companies have been on the
radar of Baba Ramdev for a long
time. These days, Baba is speaking
against IPL and WHO. However, it
is not yet clear whether he feels
threatened by such organised bodies or not.
When we reached ashram's
waiting room, we found many
people were already waiting for
him just to have his glimpse. People
had come from all places and even
from far-flung places. Few foreign
journalists were also part of our
delegation. We all had reached
there, after a long journey and
wanted to meet Swami Ramdev as
soon as possible.

where Baba was already present. I

was glad that I will be able to interview him. Saffron clad Baba smiled
and apologised for delay.
Appointment for the interview had
been fixed next morning, so, we
just said him Namaste and came
out of there. We took our lunch in
the ashram canteen. We came to
know that every dish that was prepared under Baba's strict guidelines. The food was garlic and onion
free and was complete vegetarian.

After waiting for sometime, we

were directed towards a room

We were told that Baba begins

his day at 3 am. Therefore, I too had

to start my day at the same time, as

I had to attend his yog shivir. We
headed for Haridwar. I could not
help smiling when I saw Baba surrounded by his bodyguards and
was getting ready for journey. When
we reached yog shivir, we found
that arrangements were in place.
His programme was being telecasted live across the country. Without
loosing a moment, he began teaching anulom-vilom, surya-namaskar,
pranayama and shirshashana.
Ramdev has popularised yoga
among masses and what is incredible is that he has intermingled exer-

saints and babas. Every now and
then media comes up with stories
on them. In such a scenario, how
will he garner votes on the issue of
spiritual and development. Baba
avers, Whatever I am today is due
to hard labour and honesty. I believe
that people will vote for my party.
He has created huge empire with
the support of yoga. He also owns
an island in Scotland and has shivirs in Japan, China, Vietnam and
Syria. His spokesperson said that
Baba wanted to go to Pakistan but
could not go due to various reasons. On being asked, whether he
will be able to devout time to Yoga,
since he has entered into politics?
Baba says, Yoga is part of me, I
cannot ignore or leave it at any
cost. I will open classes across the
country." Post interview, I thought
that religious and spiritual leaders
hold special place in our country
and Baba Ramdev wants to convert
this respect in votes.

age of science, we are not aware of the

fact that men are resposible for the
birth of a boy or a girl and not women. There are
two types of sperms. In women, there is ovum. All
are chromosomes. These chromosomes are further
classified into x and Y. If the male sperm with x
chromosome conjugates with female ovum then a
girl child is created. If male Y chromosome meets
female ovum then a baby boy is born. So, it is clear
that it is the man who determines the sex of baby.
Women have no role in it. Female raises the baby in
the womb for 9 months. After birth, she feeds baby
and later considers all their sufferings as hers. Ram,

A SAINT'S CONTRIBUTION

TOWARDS
THE NATION
Bharat Swabhiman Andolan is in full swing in our country. Patriotic yogis are dedicatedly and
enthusiastically working to awaken the masses. Environment is full of vigour and enthusiasm.
In such a situation, a question naturally arises in our mind: What is so special about Ramdevji that he has
become the centre of attraction of thousands and people are looking up to him with great hopes? Why
media love him so much today? Why people flock to his shivirs in large numbers? Why is the TRP of his
programme so high?

44 YOG SANDESH June 2010

There can be many answers to

these questions, but the most obvious answer is his great character,
sacrifice and great service to the
nation. His spotless, well-developed
personality has aroused fear in the
minds of the corrupt and the dishonest. These people have become
very alert seeing his pralayankari
face. Since childhood he has not
desired for material possessions
and has not acquired even an inch
of land in his name. He has not kept
any precious thing, be it cloth or
food to himself. He has only two
pieces of unstitched cloth, a pair of
kharaun (a slipper made of wood),
two cups of vegetables, one glass of
milk and some seasonal fruits-these
are his necessities. Whatever little
he takes from the world, returns it
back many times more.
He sleeps barely for 4-5 hours. His
ascetic life has become the centre
of attraction for millions of people
in this country. In his public life
spanning over 25 years, he has rendered great service to the mother
nation, especially during the last
6-10 years. Our nation will always
be indebted to him.
In the field of health, he has directly benefited about three crore people and indirectly about 100 crore
people by teaching them yoga.
People have formed this belief that
if they fall ill, the doctor will treat

them and they would be fine. The

respectable Ramdevji explained
that the doctor only tells us the
solution and prescribes medicine.
The disease is cured by the internal
system of the body. Ramdevji has
uprooted the wrong perception
about taking unnecessary medicines. Once we got political freedom due to the efforts of freedom
fighters. Now we have got freedom
in terms of health due to the efforts
of a saint. He helped us become
self-dependent and free in terms of
health.
From the point of view of morality
and character-building, the lifestyle,
ideology and thinking process of
crores of people has changed after
coming in the shivirs of Baba
Ramdevji. The fine combination of
yoga and spiritualism changed the
course of their lives forever. They
have been metamorphosed into
yogis, free of all ailments. A life full
of despair turned into a life full of
enthusiasm. Those who used to kill
innocent animals to eat, turned
vegetarians and their hearts full of
mercy and kindness. Those addicted to drugs and sex now wake up
early in the morning to do yoga.
He has helped many people quit
liquor, gutkha and cigarette. If this
contribution is analysed from the
point of view of swadeshi, Swamiji
Maharaj has awakened the feeling

Only two
pieces of cloth,
a pair of
kharaun and a
little food...
These are the
only
necessities of
Swamiji.
Whatever little
he takes from
world, he
returns it back
many times
more

The son of the

soil, the
provider, used
to be the
most
neglected in
the society...
This rishi also
paid attention
to the son of
the soil who
had been
neglected
even after
independence

Yoga imparted through the national language is filling every heart

with a feeling of patriotism. People
who would earlier think only about
themselves, have now started thinking of the nation. They have realised that they would have to stand
up to change the face and destiny of
their country.
By curing crores of people through
yoga Baba has saved billions of
rupees. Amazed? Suppose, one person incurs a monthly bill of Rs 1000
on medicines. Then 10 crore people
would incur Rs 10,000 crore per
month. If this expenditure is Rs
5000, then the cost will be Rs 50,000
crore for the same number of people. This calculation is just for a
month. Now, the annual savings
can be easily calculated. So, Swamiji
Maharaj has saved thousands of
crore rupees of people during the
last few years.
If terms of contribution towards
the development of nation, the people cured through yoga not only
save the money but also contribute
more in process of development
through their incresed productivity,
creativity and quality.
If we look at the cricketers and the
actors, they have not only wasted
millions of productive hours, they
have also trampled upon our moral
values and traditions. On the other
hand, Baba Ramdevji Maharaj

wakes up millions of sleeping

Indians and inspire them to work.
He has made us more dutiful and
patriotic. A doctor practising yoga
will not steal kidney from his
patients. He would also recommend
yoga on his letter pad.
A yogi teacher will honestly build
up the life and character of his
pupil. A yogi businessman will not
adulterate his goods. In this way,
the respectable Ramdevji Maharaj
has not only helped people to
increase their productivity, creativity and quality, but has also enlivened samskar (values) and maryada (decorum). Due to the distorted
education system introduced by
Macaulay, many students have lost
the path. He has shown new path to
them through the knowledge of
Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas.
They now better understand the
importance of these scriptures. He
has established the supremacy of
asceticism over materialism. He
has channelised our energy from
sex to prayer (vasna to upasana).
Earlier, it seemed that reform
through politics was not possible as
nobody was ready to stand up to
the corrupt and the powerful.
However, the respectable Swamiji
has shattered this myth by standing
up to them. He readied millions of
people to change the system. He
took the lead like a true patriotic,
national leader and a brave guard
of mother India.
The son of the soil used to be the
most neglected person in the society. Even after freedom, farmers
have been the most exploited class.
Baba Ramdevji's blessings reached
to farmers. He himself was born in
a farmer family. The day is not far
away when farmers of this country
will be able to live with dignity and
pride and in prosperity.
In this way Baba Ramdevji,
through his immense talent, has
served Mother India.
I am not just prasing my Guru.
Every person who has benefited in
some way or the other can understand. He has atoned in 6-7 years
for the damage inflicted upon the
nation by the corrupt during the
last 63 years. It is very difficult to
limit the contribution of these great
people in words. Because words
have their own limitations and the
saints are limitless.

Swamiji has

years for the

upon the country
during the last 63

OUR BODY IS ITS

OWN HEALER
body is a wonderful structure. It is so complete that no questions can be raised about it. The
body has been formed in such a way that if we keep following the spontaneous laws of nature,
it will keep growing without any problem. The body will grow old and finally will come to an end like
any other natural thing. To keep this body alive and healthy, we dont have to do anything except for
following the laws of nature

Our

As soon as we place food in the

mouth, the salivary glands start
working and the digestive juices
reach the stomach. Liver secretes
bile juice which in combination
with digestive juices helps in digestion and forms blood. Pancreas
forms insulin which in turn regulates sugar in the blood. Thyroid is
also an important gland which balances hormones.
Just imagine, what will happen
if we are required to breathe consciously? We will be exhausted in a
few moments! The process of blood
circulation also happens naturally.
The blood gets purified, heart beats
continuously and the kidneys work
as sieve and expel the unwanted
products out of the body through
urine. There are lakhs of pores on
our skin which keep expelling
waste material through perspiration.
Every organ of our body does its
activity regularly but when we eat
out of season things and behave
against the natural order, then the
body is prone to fall sick. Since our
body has its own in-built dispensary, 90 per cent of the diseases get
cured on their own without the use
of medicines.

lems begin, which we call ailments.

Ailments do not come on their own.
They are invited by our thinking,
behaviour and lifestyle. Otherwise,
the defence mechanism of the body
is so strong that it can take care of
every wear and tear on its own.
Poison enters our body along
with the life giving food. Useless
products also accumulate inside the
body. The body has arrangements
to flush this material out. Our body
has got well-managed outlets
through which all the filth keeps
going out. Along with the red blood
cells in the blood are the white
blood cells which fight against
germs that enter our body, and does
not let us fall sick.
Our body is self-sufficient in
many ways. It works on its own

Doctors say that having fever

sometimes is beneficial as it purifies
the body. Few problems like cough
and cold end after their fixed routine time even without medicine.
Usually no medicines were given in
motijhara earlier as it gets cured
after a fixed span. Only changes in
the food were suggested.
Today, in a panic or in a desire
to get well quickly, we take medicines which surely have side effects.
Our body is a gift of the nature
and the nature does its job without
fail. We fall into the trap of taste
and pleasures and infringe upon
the laws of nature for which the
nature punishes us in the form of
diseases.
Our eating habits are primarily
responsible for making our body
sick. Consuming meat, liquor,

tobacco and many an uneatable

thing in the name of fast food is
mainly responsible for making us
sick. If we cook natural food and
eat it, we can simply remain
healthy.
Apart from our eating habits,
our lifestyle is also not in tandem
with nature. Neither is there any
time for rest nor are there fixed
working hours these days. Everyone
is just running. There is cut throat
competition with no sign of patience
and peace. What can the body do?
It falls ill and compels us to take
rest.
Even then, are we able to take
rest? Even on bed we are immersed
into the thoughts of envy, greed and
malice which results in stressthe
root cause of several ailments.
Problems of blood pressure and
diabetes afflict us due to these reasons. The rise in the number of
suicides is also attributed to these
reasons.
Actually ,our body is wonderful,
having both nectar and poison
within it. Poison too has its medicinal use. So, the body keeps its dispensary open day in and day out
and keeps us healthy. The problem
occurs when we import innumerable toxic materials into the dispensary from outside and consequently
disturb its rythm. These toxic materials are often taken for momentary
pleasure, but they end up causing
severe harm to the body. If we do
not obstruct the natural activity of
the body, and extend support in its
smooth running, then there is no
room for diseases and stress.

Our body is
actually wonderful, it has
both nectar
and poison
within
Poison too
has its
medicinal
uses, so the
body keeps
its dispensary on round
the clock
and keeps
us healthy

diabetes is taking the form a dangerous

ailment. Among the 20 prameh (maladies mentioned in ayurveda), diabetes is the most
dangerous. Diabetes is such a prameh that even if
the other prameh are inactive, they convert into
diabetes. It was considered to be incurable by the
earlier ayurveda practitioners, but no longer so.
One can get rid of it with proper eating habits, lifestyle and by practising yoga regularly. It has been
said in Madhav Nidaan-

Today

POSITIVE EFFECT OF

PRANAYAM

Which means, sitting idly, sleeping on very soft
bed, taking milk, curd, butter milk, fish etc in
excess, and eat meat of pig, tortoise and consuming
sweets and other kafa causing things may result in
diabetes. If not cured in time, every form of prameh
gets converted into diabetes.
In diabetes, glucose level in the blood increases,
which in turn decreases the generation of insulin.
This leads to improper digestion of carbohydrates.

Repeating the first and the second pose of

mandukasana activates the pancreas and
the quantity of the insulin formed increases

That is why this pose is very effective for

curing diabetes

According to modern science, diabetes is of

four types:
1. Insulin-dependent diabetes
2. Non insulin-dependent diabetes
3. Maturation related diabetes
4. Maturation onset diabetes of young.

Acharya
Balkrishna

Among these, the first type of diabetes is mostly

found in patients below 25 years of age who then
become dependent on insulin for the rest of their
lives. The second type of diabetes is found in people over 25 years of age. Normaly, it is genetic. The
third type is found in patients between 10-15 years
of age and it is not genetic. Such patients need
insulin in the beginning. The fourth type is mostly
found in people of 20-30 years of age.
The pressure exerted on pancreas by the practice of bhrastrika, kapaalbhati, mandukasana and
other yogic asanas activates the centres of secretion of insulin in the pancreas. This results in the
release of insulin in right quantities and hence the
normalisation of sugar level in the blood. Pranayam
and other yoga asanas also help patients whose
pancreatic glands have starting degenerating, by
maintaining proper oxygen supply to them. Thus,
insulin-dependent patients can benefit from yoga.
Take two tablets of Madhunasini, prepared by
the Divya Pharmacy run by the Divya Yog Mandir
Trust (Ashram). This tablet needs to be taken half
an hour before or after the meal with water or milk.
Along with it, focus on pranayam and pathya-apathya. The use of Madhunasini increases the immunity. If you take insulin or other allopathic medicines for sugar, then get it checked after two weeks
of starting Madhunasini. Gradually decrease the
dose of allopathic medicines. If the sugar level

Diabetes
Day

To establish it scientifically, the patients were

tested for their blood sugar level before and after
the camp. A positive effect was found on the
symptoms of diabetes like polyurea, polydypsia
and weakness etc. Thus, it was established that
yoga is effective against diabetes. It can be controlled even without medicine if kapaalbhati
pranayaam is done regularly and properly.
The kurmasana is also effective against diabetes. Mandukasana and kurmasana should be
done in the repetition of 3-4 cycles. For more
information please read 'Yog Sadhana' and 'Yog
Chikitsa Rahasya'.

are times when the Almighty lives between the human beings and He is omnipresent on the ocean bed
of our lives. Then there are times when He leaves and human beings are left to work as per their pride
and ignorance. In the first case, even a little labour yields great results and changes the fortunes. In the second
case, a lot of hard work has to be put in even to achieve little. It is true that the second may pave the path for the
first, it can be the smoke coming out of sacrifice in the holy fire and may ultimately lead to the path of heaven. It
brings the rain of divine blessings to the earth.

BHAGWAT

MUHURT
Shri Arvind

That man or nation is unlucky that

remains sleeping, or is not prepared
to utilise, when the Bhagvat Muhurt
arrives. It means it has not done
any preparation and remains ignorant about its call. They are even
more unlucky who are prepared
and strong, but even then they
squander their strength or misuse
the fortunate time. They face irreparable loss or huge destruction.

During the
Bhagwat
Muhurt...
Rinse your
soul clean...
of
arrogance,
hypocrisy
and selfpraise...

Cleanse all your doubts and

suspicion from the soul, false pretence and the propensity of hollow
self praise so that you can directly
see the inner being and can listen to
the inner voice. All the cunning of
your nature, that keeps you away
from the light of God, will become
a hole in your armour and will call
for attacks on you. Even if you win,
it will be bad, as the attacks on you
would come later and then they will
defeat you.
Shake off all your fears and get
pure, as these times are generally
dangerous. It is like a fireball, a
storm, a whirlwind, and is like the
devastating tandav of Maha Rudra.
But, anyone who can withstand this
with the truth of his goal, will be the
one intact. Even if such a person
falls down, he can get up. If it is felt
that he is being carried away by the
strong winds, he will return back.
Dont let the worldly wisdom whis-

per in your ears as it will be the occasion of

surprise, beyond count and measure. Dont
face the Godly breath with your tiny instruments. Instead, believe in it and move
ahead. But, most of the people keep their
soul, even if for a small time, untouched
from the din of false pride. And then, in the
night a torch will move infront of you and
even a storm will assist you and your flag
will be hoisted on the pinnacle which you
always wanted to win.

Stretch your legs apart. Now, try to
touch your toes with your hands,
without bending the knee. Do this
twice a day in the set of 10 each.
Stretch your legs two feet apart and
bend the body forward at 90 degree
angle. Now, touch your left toe with
your right hand. Do this at least 20
times on both sides.

woman in this world always wants to look beautiful. To achieve this, women try all kinds of cosmetic products and artificial ways including make-up and
colouring hair. But the results achieved through such ways
are short lived. Yogasanas and naturopathy are the two ways
through which women can remain beautiful forever.

Lie on the floor on your back. Keep

the legs together. Now, raise your
legs without bending the knees.
Similarly, raise the upper body and
try to form a boat-like shape. Remain
in this position for about a minute.
Besides, you can do paschimottanasana in order to burn the fat from the
belly. Pavanmuktasana, bhujangasana, dhanurasana can be easily done.

Spare 20-25 minutes everyday for

yogasana. This can remove wrinkles
from the face and the flab from the
belly. In order to get smooth and
supple skin, cover your face with
both palms. Take deep breath. After
a few minutes, massage the face
from chin to the forehead with the
tips of the fingers. Along with this,
do kapaalbhati and anulom-vilom.

Stretch your legs a foot wide. Raise

your hands laterally up to the shoulders. Now bend the upper body on
the left side as much as possible and
look backwards. Make sure to keep
the feet on ground. Repeat this on the
other side. Do this 10- to 20 times.
Stand with some gap between the
legs and your hands on the waist.
Bend forwards and try to touch the
thighs. To begin with, repeat it thrice.
Increase the reps gradually.

Every

Shapely neck
Stand with the feet close to each
other. Turn around the face backwards as much as possible. Remain in
this position for some time. Now,
place the chin on the chest bone at
the end of the neck. Keep straight and
without moving the shoulders tilt your
neck on both sides so that it rests on
the shoulders. Repeat it for at least 20
times. Roll the neck 10 times in both
the directions after this asana.
Part your legs a little and keep your
hands on the waist. Now, take a deep
breath. Do this in the set of 40. Sit
stretching the legs in front. Raise
your hands one by one and then
bring them down. Do it as if you are
pulling a rope. Increase it gradually.

YOGA
AND

IMMUNITY
various parts of India, June brings soothing rains and we
all feel relieved with the decline in temperature. However,
we need to be careful whenever the season changes. It is during
this time that the possibility of gastro-intestinal infection and
cold is high.

In

Dr Sherly Tellis
Chief Experiment
Advisor,
Yoga Experiment
and Development
Department
Patanjali Yogpeeth,
Haridwar

To keep away from this infection, it

is important that we keep away
from the roadside food. We should
wash our fruits and vegetables and
need to keep our hands clean. But it
is more important that we raise our
immunity so that we are able to
face the intruding bacteria and
virus successfully.
Our immunity goes down with
increasing stress. It is very common
among the students to get infected
with cold and other such infections
before the exams. This has been
proved by the scientists. (Reference:
Bal Chikitsa, 2003, 111:822-828).
In our body there are certain fighting cells which are called 'natural
killer cells'. These cells are a part of
our body's immunity system. These
cells provide effective safety against
the virus which cause cough and
cold. These cells also fight against

tumour cells. Perhaps most of us do

not know that cancer cells keep
generating consin the body and
increase with age, but in a healthy
body, the natural killer cells keep
eliminating them.
If the immunity is not good, these
cells are not destroyed and can
eventually result in cancer.
Practising yoga (pranayam, sandhi
sanchalan abhyaas, yoga of relaxation asana, shavasana) can help
people with weak immunity system. Cancer patients too fall under
this category.
Traditional therapies like chemotherapy and radiation therapy are
very important, but they also
destroy the natural killer cells along
with the cancer cells. It means that
people who get their cancer treated
with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, should be especially cautious
about everything so that they can
improve the working of their immunity system and the natural killer
cells.
The good news is that practising
yoga can improve the immunity of
those infected with breast cancer
and are undergoing traditional
treatment. (Published: Medical
Science Monitor 2008, 13 (I:) LE).
In June, the schools reopen and
children rejoin their schools. Some
children get infected during this
time with the painful throat infection that can be due to tonsillitis.
Such children should take proper
rest, drink liquid in large quantity
and should practise yoga.
It can be surprising but various
breathing exercises in yoga
(pranayam) are traditionally known
for cooling down. These are mostly
sheetly, sheetkari and sadant
pranayam and more which are easy
to practise. Interestingly, we have
found that these breathing practices (along with some other methods)
are helpful in bringing the fever
down amongst those infected with
old
infections.
(Published:
Respirology 2004, 0 (1): 86-101)
Looking at the above reasons, we
can say we must surely do yoga to
keep ourselves healthy and to enjoy
the rainy season.

Yoga is scientific and universal

Vidya - Swami Ramdev

It's a challenge to be a man of

character - Swami Ramdev

Swami's message is a symbol of

humanity - Swami Gyandas

'Kumbh' is a mahaparva of thinking and churning. Here,

a lot of in-depth analysis and discussion on various topics
takes place and with the conclusion, people are exposed
to positive insights and also get a new direction. In the
Swar Ganga pandal, which is sponsored by Patanjali
Yogpeeth, in the blessed presence of Yogrishi Swami
Ramdev ji, people in the proximity in the yoga vigayn
shivir not only avail Yoga and pranayama lessons but
also get blessed by saints and the sages. Ramesh Bhai,
Ojha ojha, the famous storyteller said that Swami
Ramdev was born in an ordinary family. Without blessings of God, no one can become great. He has made India
and world healthier by his yoga teachings, and now he
wants make country and world a better place to live. This
move by him will also help society, country, universe and
environment immensely. Swami Ramdev is godsend.
This is ironical that people who broke all legislation and
should be behind bars are still governing the country and
representing us. All saints are with Swami Ramdev, who
has called for regime of change. In ancient times, Rama
and Krishna stood against the misrule of Kans and
Ravana. Similarly, he has come forward to do the same.
In support of Swami Ramdev in developing nation, the
secretary of Maha Nirwani Akhada, Ravindrapuree
Maharaj said that whenever nation and society gets in a
position of anarchy - the saints have come forward to
show the way to the society. Currently, in the age of corruption, unrest, misconduct- all the saints are with
Swami ji. He further said that "yoga" a revolution initiated by him is making the world healthy. And to make the
nation powerful and corruption-free, he has launched
Bharat Swabhiman movement. Swami Ramdev's political
motive is not to clinch power at the centre but to help its
people in getting rid of corrup political regime. In this
sacred function all akharas across the country are in support of Bharat Swabhiman mission.

Yoga has gained popularity across the world, thanks to

methods adopted by Swami Ramdev. His yogic techniques has benefitted millions of people. In fact, they are
all praising him for his immense contribution and efforts
in the field of yoga and also address him as a modern
Patanjali. According to a joint venture between Patanjali
Yogpeeth and Kumbh Fair Administration along with the
support of Swami Ramdev ji, a lot of people are visiting
the area of Gourishankar and Yoga Science Camp where
Swar Ganga Pandal is located. They are not only visiting
the place from various parts of India, but from abroad
also. Ramdev is quite harsh on impact of West. He said
that it is quite difficult to be a man of character these
days. No Goal can be achieved without control over
mind. Baba said that India's culture is based upon the
family relationships and values. He said that Western
nudity cant be considered dignity. Indian culture is still
paramount. He said the virtuous Ram and Krishna are
our ideals because of their values. He urged the masses
to adopt pranayama and practice regularly. He said that
through pranayama, one can rejuvenate himself in very
short span of time. He said that for vulnerable young
minds deviation is normal. People can control mind and
heart by regularly practicing pranayama. With the help
of yoga, one can get rid of all diseases. Ramdev said that
the existence of life is similar to that of universe; because
the five elements of nature earth, water, fire, air and sky
are prime ingredient of our body. He also said that man
has many abilities but he is unable to use them properly.
Swamiji is not only making people fit through yoga,
pranayama and asana but is also purifying their souls.
Ramdev said along with healthy food yoga and pranayam
will also lead them to a healthy life. He said by adapting
new food pattern, we are forgetting our original food
habits, which is harmful. From that platform Swamiji
also said to launch his movement - Bharat Nirman.

Kumbha is an occasion of thought and improvement of

self. People from all over the world gather on the banks
of Ganges for physical and mental upgradation.
Addressing the people at the free Yoga Science Camp,
Gyandas Ji Maharaj Chairman of All India Akhara
Council said that yoga guru Swami Ramdev is spreading
a health message, which is a symbol of humanity for the
world and people are getting benefits from it. We are
eager to take your guidance. Yoga was present in India
since centuries but Swami Ramdev has taken it to new
heights. But corrupt leaders in the country are installing
other things in place of divinity. Both cow and human
beings are crying their hearts out because of the corruption and erratic system. In fact, Swami Ramdev has
taught the fellow citizens how to remain healthy. Now he
has taken a step further to eradicate corruption and corrupt political system through his movement - 'Bharat
Swabhiman'. We are with you in this holy work. He said
that Swami Ramdev is connecting the country with spirituality. He went on to say Ganga is our culture, but no
one listens to us. That if Ganga is our culture, why it is
getting bounded? Remove all corrupt politicians from the
country, we do not want to enslave ourselves once again.
At last, he said that Akhara Council is always with Swami
Ramdev. Purification of country's corrupt political system
is need of the hour. Giving his blessings and speaking on
the occasion, Mahamandleshwar Swami Dharamdev
said that Swami Ramdev has awaken people on this auspicious occasion of Kumbha. His dream will surely come
true just like the stream of Ganga. Swami Ramdev will
not be stopped by anyone. Today, every man needs to
ponder for sometime. Swamiji want best people in politics he has resolved to do so. Swami Ramdev is a messenger of God and has brought public awareness in
India. People have started taking corrupt politicians and
corrupt political system seriously.

Storm can't uproot

our religious base
Baba Ramdev
Our religious roots are so deep that
even storm or disaster cannot
uproot them. Since Mahabharata,
we have tolerated Ravana in saffron dress. But some rogue element cant ruin the teachings of
ancient sages so easily. Today one
can find a baba in every street.
Basically, they are fortune teller or
tarot card reader. People should
understand that recognition comes
from real knowledge not clothes.
Ignorance and despair force a man
to go for Mayajaal i.e tantra, mantra and yantra. Be careful when you
are in a bad situation. Before going
to a guru check his credibility.
Should a guru marry? If marriage is
the solution to fraud baba then he
will have ill feelings for the neighbours wife. Sex gives temporary
pleasure but yoga converts energy
and gives eternal happiness.
Nothing is perfect. Sex does creation, but it is limited... Beyond
marriage, it takes us to wrong
doings like rape and mental illness.

A ray of hope by this

Swamiji is doing a great work by

uniting the world - Morari Bapu

20 days long yoga camp

comes to an end

Addressing devotees at Swar Ganga Pandals free yoga

vigyana shivir, Chancellor of the Dev Sanskriti
Vishwavidyalaya Dr. Pranab Pandya said that the most
difficult work is to build ones life. Systematically organising to manage oneself is yoga. One should arouse ones
inner hidden divinity. This work is possible only through
yoga. Yoga boosts a persons life. In this age, when westernised people wake up at eight or nine, Swamiji has
taught us to get up early in the morning and practice
yoga. This is a revolutionary step. Dr. Pandya said yoga
not only improves health, but it organises everything.
Yoga improves personal life and helps in constructing
the nation. He said: ''If we change then the world will
change" (Hum shudhrenge, jag shudharega). Through
unity we can defeat the wrongdoers and can revive
divinity. A healthy India will become world leader.
While blessings the seekers, Sadhvi (nun) Ritambhara
said Swamiji has sowed the seed of resolution of Bharat
Nirman in the minds of the common people. India is the
spiritual guide of the world. For that purpose God has
chosen Swami. Let us support him. He has decided to
change us through yoga. It is our duty to join the process.
The purification of body and politics can bring in changes
in the country. The Swami led Bharat Nirman movement
contains hope for the people. Sadhvi talked of spirituality.
Guest Maheshanand, who came from abroad, said the
work which Swami is doing in the field of Yoga and
Ayurveda is a great gift to the mankind. The people are
becoming healthier. Now Swamiji has taken the task of
political purification. So we should back him. President
of Akhil Bharatiya Sant New Committee Avichaladass G
Maharaj, Bhupinder Singh Maharaja and Rama Saraswati
blessed the seekers on the occasion.
The seekers who had turned up in great numbers at
Swar Ganga of Maheshanand learned new methods to
manage their lives. The were informed about the Swami
Ramdevs new Yogik-Jogging package of eight kinds.
The amazing package teaches the devotees breathing
efforts, physical building, character building and nation
building. Speaking on the occasion, he talked on drugs,
lust and non-violence. Besides, the crowd was also educated about way to treat diseases through natural ways.
They were taught natural remedies. Swami Ramdev said
that India is losing humanity and divinity. We will have to
establish divinity to make India a country of saints, he
added.

With the help yoga and meditation, Baba Ramdev

Maharaj is trying to boost the nations strength on
global platform. He is striving for social equality with the
help of yoga that unites people. On the platform of Toga
everything was exposed. Baba preached yoga and popularised it on international level. For the first time it has
become all the rage, thanks to Baba Ramdev. Earlier,
people used to practice yoga at individual level but
Swamiji changed all this by making it extremely popular. He is here to give people relief from diseases. He is
helping people to get rid of their suffering through yoga.
Act of a sage never fails. This fakir is striving for equality in society. He is uniting the the world keeping
'Patanjali Yogpeeth in the center.
In the Swar Ganga cultural Pandal at the evening
session of free "Yoga Science Camp" at the time of guidance and blessing ceremony, Morari Bapu said: "Sage
always nourishes, he does not exploit. Through Patanjali
Yoga peeth, Baba is doing a great service to humanity. In
the 21st century, monks have responsibility towards
society. They should work with Baba to purify society
and the political system." Addressing CRPF and forces,
Swami Ramdev Maharaj said: "Efforts are on to break
India, but this will not happen because we have woken
up. Through overall development of India, it will again
become Jagatguru. A man saves his life by putting everything at stake but one army jawan and para military
protects the country by putting their life at stake."
Speaking on the current economic system and its past
glory, Swamiji said that in the last 63 years, robbers have
looted our country more than the British looted in two
hundred years. Swamiji said many challenges are still to
be achieved. We dont want India covered in blood, we
want an advanced nation, he said.

Bharat Swabhiman is an organisation that is working to restore the lost glory and pride among the
Indians. Recently it organised a 20 days event of
Baba Ramdevs Patanjali Yogpeeth from April 5 to
April 25, 2010. On this occasion two chieftains
from every district of India participated in the
event and they were imparted training on yog and
management.
Addressing the event, Baba said that to weed
out economic corruption it is necessary that the
black money to the tune of Rs. 258 lakh crores
deposited in foreign banks and Rs. 60 lakh crores
deposited with banks in India be utilised for economic and social development of the nation. He
said that the main objective of Bharat Swabhiman
was to Indianise the very concept of education,
health, law, agriculture and economy. Besides, the
aim is to combat corruption, dowry deaths, rape,
killing of cows and terrorism so that the common
man can get solace. The main aim of the forum is
to end corrupt political system established by the
Britishers.
He requested the volunteers to selflessly learn
and follow the principles. He said one learn to
raise question relating spiritual, political, personal
lives. Questions lead to answers. One should not
blindly accept things. It is true knowledge that
makes human lives great and successful. If you
want to be an ideal person you should build your
character in such a way that others should
emulate it.
Speaking on the challenges facing the nation,
Baba said that corruption is the greatest enemy
and thus we need to work to establish corruption
free India. We want the country to develop in every

Liquor makes a man senseless and animal-like. Hence, to support
and promote liquor, to take it and to make it, all come into the
category of moral and social crime as per the reality, reason and
morality. Will any civilised parents ever like to see their young
daughter intoxicated of liquor in a pub and doing vulgar things

Swami launches campaign to end

killings of the holy cow

Maharishi Valmiki was the first

to highlight Ram - Swami Ramdev

Ramdev Baba is all about knowledge, devotion and actions -

Ascetics have no possessions, whatever little they have

it belongs to society. He who involves himself in the
service of society selflessly is bound to achieve the
same. Preaching the goodness of yog has been the
essence of Babas Patanjali ashram and the same has
brought glory to the nation. From the same platform
Baba Ramdev Maharaj has called for saving the holy
cow. It is high time that India worked on preserving Gau
( holy cow), Ganga, Gita and its culture and tradition, he
said.
In a joint initiative of the Patanjali Yog Peeth and the
Kumbh administration, a free to all seminar on Yog and
Science was organised. The initiative was praised from
all including the present chairman of the Bharat Mata
Mandir, Maha Mandeshwarji.
He said that Lord Shiva is always on a Yog mudra
with his hands on Nandi who happens to be a descendant of Gau (holy cow). Even Lord Krishna liked cows
and saw to it that they were respected. In this pretext he
also cited the examples of Nandini and Dilip and asserted that in the presence of a ruler the holy cow cannot be
slaughtered. But today the government runs slaughter
houses so what can be expected of it. Satyamitranandji
said that only those who care for Gau, Gita, Ganga and
culture and tradition should rule the country. Given the
initiatives of Baba the country has awoken. It is just a
matter of time before we attain true freedom. Countrymen
should forget about their well being and take part in the
process of building India that is respected globally.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Pradhumyn said
it is the all mighty who is doing all these and Baba is his
mascot in all the good works being undertaken by the
Yog Peeth. Baba has taken up the task to bring about a
change in one should come ahead and help him. Others
who spoke on the same issue included Devkinandan,
Durgadas, Rajendra Das. On the concluding day Baba
took a session on Pranayam and discussed about various ailments and their respective treatments. Baba also
stressed that violence is no solution to the existing problems. Yog is a must for peace.
He said violence cannot lead to peace. For peace yog
is a must and the political establishment must be made
strong. We have to come forward to end slaughter of
cows. Many people came forward to help the Baba in his
endeavour.

Swami Ramdevji did a service by building Maharishi

Valmiki Dharamshal on the occasion of the second phase
of Patanjali Yogpeth. This shows his respect for Maharishi
Valmiki and Valmiki society. No spiritual institution ever
thought of Valmiki society, but Patanjali Yogpeth showed
the way by building Valmiki Dharmshala and Sant
Ravidas Langer (free food camp). Swami Ramdev
Maharaj and Acharya Balakrishna not only think of dalits and poors, but also for humanity. These people have a
place in their heart for Valmiki community. These views
were expressed at Patanjali Yogpeths first Phase Valmiki
Yagyashala Choudhary Kure Pehelwan, president of
Valmiki sarpanch committee, Delhi.
Revered Swami Ramdev Maharaj said on the occasion said that the name Valmiki Dharamshala is not to
lure some caste or section. Our job is above race, religion
and creed. It was Maharishi Valmiki Ji, who for the first
time described Lord Rama for us. He told us about his
character, sacrifice, dedication, love, kindness, generosity, etc. He inspired the people to follow his ideals. Lord

He said that negligence of Hindi in India by design and
if we come to power, we will ban killing of cows.
