Green Schools Meeting

24/9/2015 @ 12:30pm
Present at the meeting were the committee members:
Ellie Frost, Martin Bon, Finn Bliss, Azarah Keane, Chelsea Canny,
Darragh Moroney, Cian OConnell , Caoimhe Kelly, Michelle Fawl
and Mike Hogan.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read out by Caoimhe
Kelly.
We began with a discussion about the school garden. The
children shared ideas about how we could improve it. We hope
to start work on the garden next week. It was then suggested
that the shed wall could be repainted and that we could
incorporate all the Green-Schools Themes into the design. We
agreed to ask Miss MacClean, who is very talented at Art, if she
would be willing to take it on as a project and help the children
with this. The committee feel that this would be a great way to
reinforce each theme as the children would constantly see the
artwork and they would be involved in its creation.
*(Miss MacClean agreed that this would be a great idea. She
will begin working on a design and this will be undertaken as a
school project.)
We then decided who would be Waste Inspectors and Energy
Inspectors in each classroom. The Waste Inspectors will be:
Cian OConnell (Infant Classroom)
Martin Bon (1st and 2nd Classroom)
Finn Bliss (3rd and 4th Classroom)
Chelsea Canny (5th and 6th Classroom)
The Energy Inspectors will be:

Darragh Moroney (Infant Classroom)

Ellie Frost (1st and 2nd Classroom)
Azarah Keane (3rd and 4th Classroom)
Caoimhe Kelly (5th and 6th Classroom)
We used the rest of our time during this meeting to sort
through the bins from the kitchen. We had decided that we
would remove all bins from the kitchen as the teachers were
being very careless with recycling. We wore gloves and put all
recyclables from the bins into our class recycling bin and then
we put all the waste materials into our class waste bin. Any
materials for the compost were put into the appropriate bin
also. The teachers must now use the same three bins as all the
classrooms (recycling, waste and compost) and these bins will
be located in the staffroom.
Three bins for recycling, waste and compost were also prepared
for bringing out onto the yard each break-time. Caoimhe Kelly
was nominated to bring these bins out every day. Lucy
McMahon (6th Class) will help her with this.
