Representative Dan Schoen Announces Candidacy for State Senate

Representative Dan Schoen (DFL- St. Paul Park) announced today that he will run for the State Senate. Senator Katie Sieben (DFL- Cottage Grove) announced she would not seek re-election to Senate District 54 in 2016.
Representative Schoen has been elected twice to represent House District 54A (South St. Paul, Newport, St. Paul Park, Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island Township). Schoen is a police officer with the Cottage Grove Police Department, having
there for 15 years including as a Detective in the Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force, Paramedic and Hostage and Crisis Negotiator.
"It has been an honor to work with Senator Sieben at the capitol the past three years. She has been a mentor and friend since I was elected to the House. She has a passion for helping people and has made a positive impact on thousand of
people's lives. It has also been an honor to represent our neighbors in the House of Representatives. I am truly humbled by the trust placed in me by the voters to be able to advocate for our friends, neighbors, and communities. I hope to
continue to represent our district and would be honored to represent Hastings, Afton, Denmark Township, Nininger Township and the rest of Cottage Grove as well as the people I serve now in Grey Cloud Island Township, Newport, St. Paul Park
and South St. Paul.
In two terms in the House of Representatives, Schoen has quickly proven himself to be a strong voice for his constituents. He has done/accomplished passing bi-partisan legislation keeping domestic abusers from possessing firearms, getting
lifesaving medication into the hands of families and first responders to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose and making sure Minnesotans have access to health care providers like Nurse Practitioners all over our state. Rep. Schoen has built
a track-record of bipartisan accomplishments and has proven he can work with members on both sides of the political aisle in order to improve our state.
"If elected to the Senate I will continue to work on the issues important to our district and state. Ive built strong relationships with local leaders in other parts of the district to build safe communities and strong schools. I will advocate for policies
that honor the service of our veterans and protect our seniors. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the entire district as your Senator.
Dan lives in St. Paul Park with his two children, Addie and Wyatt.
