Chemicals Used in Treatment

Several different chemicals are used in the treatment process at JCEC. The chemicals are delivered by tanker truck
and stored in large “bulk” storage tanks. From these tanks the chemicals are pumped using metering pumps at very
specific flow rates to different application points in the treatment process. The feed pumps are automated so that a
change in flowrate into the plant automatically adjusts the amount of chemical that is applied.
Chemicals have different hazards and must be stored with compatible chemicals. Special provisions are put in
place to prevent chemical exposure including spill containment, double walled piping, and emergency showers and
eyewash units to protect operators. At the JCEC delivery trucks have a special covered delivery area to allow truck
drivers to unload the chemicals in a controlled area.

Bulk storage tanks hold large volumes of chemicals Chemical metering pumps feed precise amounts
allowing delivery via tanker truck. of chemicals to the treatment process.
