Thislabreportaddressesanormalcellenvironmentwhereactionpotentialoccursinneuron

sendelectricalimpulsesdownanaxonawayfromthecellbodyanditwillalsoaddressthe
effectsoftoxinsontheactionpotentialfollowedbycranialnerveandreflextesting.Action
potentialalsoknownasanerveimpulseistheeventsoftheelectricalresponsethattakesplace
inacell,causedwhendifferentionscrossestheneuronmembrane.Thefirsteventinanaction
potentialisdepolarization,wherethesodiumionsflowintothecellchangingthesodiumions
fromanegativetoapositivelevelatthemembraneoftheneuron.Theeventafterdepolarization
knownasrepolarizationiswhenthecellrepolarizesitselfbyusingitssodiumpotassiumpump
locatedinthemembrane:foreverythreesodiumionsitpumpsout,itpumpsintwopotassium
ionsuntiltheproperchargeisreached.Duringtherefractoryperiod,whichlastaround1/2500of
asecond,theaxonsvoltagegatedsodiumchannelsarenotresponsiveatall,andtheaxon
cannotbestimulatedtoproduceanotheractionpotential.
