Mayor John Pauldine Announces Gubernatorial Exploratory Committee
SALINA, KS --- John Pauldine (R), mayor of the City of Salina, and longtime advocate
and supporter of students and youth in Kansas, announced today that he will explore the
possibility of running for Governor of the State of Kansas.
John was born in Hutchinson, KS, where he graduated from Hutchinson High School
with a diploma from the International Baccalaureate Programme. He attended KU, and
graduated with a degree in Political Science, where he went on to work for KU
Endowment. He then moved to his wifes hometown of Salina, KS. There, he and
Caroline live with their daughters, Lynn and Maggie. He is in his fourth term as Mayor of
Salina, and volunteers the rest of his time coaching basketball at the Salina YMCA.
As a lifelong Kansan, I have seen the office of Governor be misused time and time
again. Issues such as education, healthcare, and jobs have been ignored by previous
Governors of both parties. The time has come for Kansas, its citizens, and its Governor
to say Enough. Let us face these issues boldly, and head-on. I have spent my life
working to better the next generation of Kansans through education, mentorship and
more. It is not enough to just talk about how many we incarcerate, how many we cast
aside and we entrap in a cycle of poverty. I am a father, I am a mayor, I am the son of a
police officer and I am the husband of a school teacher - I understand the issues we
face. For the betterment of my daughters future, the State of Kansas and its people, I
have decided to explore the possibility of running for Governor.
Papers have been filed for the committee, which will be comprised of the committee
manager, Eric Pahls of Beloit, KS; deputy manager (who will lead the finances and field
directing) Tim Aspleaf of Overland Park, KS; communications team of Hank Cavagnaro
of Dodge City, KS, and Sam Silverman of Topeka, KS.
John will begin his listening tour of Kansas this week, to listen to the issues that matter
most to the people. He intends on making a final decision in the near future.
