Cornell Notes

Topic/Objective:

Name: Trinity J
Class/Period: 6th
Date:1/11-1/15

Essential Question: Investigate how and why cells transport substances through their membranes
Questions:
LV1: What is isotonic,
hypertonic, and Hypotonic
solutions?
`

Notes:

LV2: Can you

explain how the
plant cell is
affected by the
pressure of force of
water?
LV3: Can you
elaborate on the
reason of how
pressure builds up
in a cell?
How would you test
osmosis?
LV4: What can be a
thesis from multiple
conclusions?

Part of Osmosis
Isotonic solution is when you have equal concentration in
and out of the cell.
Hypertonic solution is when high amounts of solute are
outside of the cell and small amounts are inside the cell
Hypotonic solution is when high amounts are inside the cell
while there are low amounts outside the cell.

When salt solutions go into a cell, the solution takes or

dehydrates a cell and that cause the plants to be more
flexible while plants with a regular water solution

The rush of water, moves into the cell, and is stored up can
pushes pressure on the walls until the cell lysis

Osmosis can be tested with just a potato and different

solutions, like salt water solutions or regular water solutions.
This can show how hypotonic and hypertonic solutions work

Working with penicillin, penicillin is a drug usually used for

strep throat, sinus infections, etc. Penicillin can break the bad
cell side. Bacteria can become immune to antibiotics like
penicillin. This can come to the conclusion that penicillin is a
good antibiotic, but people can become immune to the
antibiotic overtime if overused. Penicillin should be used
when there is a problem, leading to that penicillin is an
antibiotic that starts as a high concentration and moves to a
smaller one, in which begin to fill inside an infectious cell
they soon will lysis. Due to the pressure in the cell.

Summary: For this weeks notes, we learned a lot more about osmosis. Osmosis consist of hypertonic, hypotonic,
And isotonic solutions. In the turgors pressure lab, one learns how a plant is affected by
osmosis. The plant was affected by the salt solution, in which dehydrated the solution.
Also, one learned more about
Pressure in a cell, how is the pressure affective? One learns that the pressure builds up
and soon leads to lysis.
Lastly, one can come to a thesis on how penicillin is overused and what happens in our
bodies when the medicine is working or isnt working.
