approach has become popular in healthcare to improve patient and staff well-being, patient
healing, stress reduction and safety. Roger Ulrich is one of the most popular architects that
utilize the said approach. He is a famous consultant in designing hospitals and healthcare
facilities today.

What is a tsunami?

A Tsunami is a series of sea waves commonly generated by under-the-sea earthquakes and whose heights
could be greater than 5 meters. It is erroneously called tidal waves and sometimes mistakenly associated
with storm surges. Tsunamis can occur when the earthquake is shallow-seated and strong enough to displace
parts of the seabed and disturb the mass of water over it.

SOME NATURAL SIGNS OF AN APPROACHING LOCAL TSUNAMI

1) A felt earthquake.

2) Unusual sea level change: sudden sea water retreat or rise.

3) Rumbling sound of approaching waves.

The reason why this research is being conducted is to know the possibility of designing a
healthcare facility or a hospital along the coast. In this hospital patients can be distracted
from the stress brought about by their illnesses by being with nature. The fact that the
ocean or marine environment has significant positive effects on human health is one that
cannot be denied. The disregard of this fact is very evident in the hospitals in the
Philippines.

There is a lot of things to consider in this type of project climate, utilities, people, and
environment. That is why in this research, the following questions are aimed to be answered:
1. How can the ocean/marine environment affect human health positively? Negatively?
2. What may be the effects of a hospital to a body of water when the hospital is near it?

3. How true the issues presenting risks to human health such as climate change,
extreme weather, natural events, and others present risks on human health is?
