Thislabreportwilladdressanormalcellenvironmentwheretheactionpotentialoccursinthe
neurontriggerzonewhenthemembranepotential(electricalcharge)risesandfalls,theneuron
thensendstheelectricalimpulsedownanaxonawayfromthecellbodyanditwillalsoaddress
theeffectsoftoxinsontheactionpotentialfollowedbycranialnerveandreflextesting.Action
potentialalsoknownasanerveimpulseistheeventsofelectricalresponsethattakesplaceina
cell,causedwhendifferentionscrossestheneuronmembrane.Thefirsteventinaction
potentialisdepolarization,wherethesodiumionsflowintothecellchangingthesodiumions
fromanegativetoapositivelevelatthemembraneoftheneuron.Theeventafter
depolarization,thecellrepolarizesitselfafterusingitssodiumpotassiumpumplocatedinthe
membraneforeverythreesodiumionsitpumpsout,itpumpsintwopotassiumionsuntilthe
properchargeisreached.Duringtherefractoryperiod,whichlastsaround1/2500pfasecond,
theaxonscannotbestimulatedtoproduceanotheractionpotential.Thefigurebelowrepresent
allinformationanddatacollectedbyresearchingactionpotentialfurtherandlabsperformed
withinformationabove.
