Greece
Officially called the Hellenic Republic
Located in southeastern Europe
One of the longest histories of any country
and is considered the cradle of Western
Civilization
According to 2011 census. Greeces
population is around 10.8 million
Athens is the nations capital and largest
city, followed by Thessaloniki, which is
commonly referred to as the co-capital

Geography
Greece is a country in Southern Europe, located at
the Crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa.
The country consists of a large mainland and two
additional smaller peninsulas; The Chalkidice and the
Peloponnese, which is separated from the mainland
by the Isthmus of Corinth.
Greece also features a large number of islands
including: Crete, Euboea, Rhodes & Corfu, and the
smaller ones such as the: Dodecanese and Cyclades.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Greece has
13,676km of coastline, the largest in the
Mediterranean Basin.

Climate
Greeces Climate is divided into 3 main
classes:
1. Mediterranean Climate mild, wet
winters and hot, dry summers
2. Alpine Climate average weather
3. Temperate Climate cold, damp
winters and hot, dry summers

Topography
Greece consists of 9 geographic regions:
1. Macedonia
2. Central Greece
3. Peloponnese
4. Thessaly
5. Epirus
6. Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese & Cyclades)
7. Thrace
8. Crete
9. Ionian Islands
-. Much of the land in Greece is made of mountain ranges, plains and
valleys
-. The composition of the soil is primarily made of limestone.
-. Limestone is a type of sedimentary rock that is shaly or sandy. It is
either bare or covered with small shrubs
