    Electrospray ionization is a technique that turns molecules from liquid into aerosol and analyzes large molecules without destroying them, such as proteins, peptides, and oligosaccharides. It has advantages like being able to analyze very large and fragile molecules, as well as complexes, and can be interfaced with HPLC. However, it is not useful for non-polar compounds and spectra of mixtures become too complex.

    Advantages:
    Large molecules can be analyzed (MW > 70,000)
    Ionizes very fragile molecules and non-covalent
    complexes
    Can be easily interfaced with HPLC

    Disadvantages:
    Not useful for non-polar compounds
    Spectra of mixtures get too complex
