Alright,everyone.Pleasegetouttheworksheetsthatyouwereworkingonyesterday
withMs.Yonker.Today,wearegoingtousewhatwehavealreadycompletedand
finishallofthedifferentshapeslistedonthisworksheet.Pleasegetyourscissorsand
gluesticksoutaswell,sincewewillbecontinuingtocutthepaperandglueitintoour
notebooks.

StatingtheObjectiveinstudentlanguage:
Asyouprobablyrememberfromyesterday,wearegoingtocontinuetobeworkingon
beingabletoidentifythenamesofspecificquadrilaterals.Wealreadyknowabout
squaresandrectangles,buttherearealotofotheronesaswellthatIamgoingtobe
teachingyouabout,too!Someofyoumayalreadyknowthenamesofafewofthese
shapes,soyoucanhelpyourclassmatesoutiftheyneedit.

Rationaleoflessoninstudentlanguage:
Theseshapesaregoingtobeveryimportantniithefutureforlearningthingslike
geometry,especiallyinhighschool.Itisalsoimportanttorecognizetheimportance
ofknowingthenamesofshapesaswell.Shapesareallaroundus!Beingableto
identifythenamesofeachonecanonlyhelpyoutounderstandtheworldaroundyou

Beforewegetstarted,Ijustwanttoremindyoutobeonyourbestbehaviorduring
thislesson.Iknowitiseasytogetdistractedbyscissorsandglue,butIwantto
makesurethatyouallstayinyourseatsandpaycloseattention.ThelastthingI
wantisforyoutogluethewrongthingtoyourpaper!Ialsowanttomakesurethat

Takealookatthedefinitionsoftheshapes.Whichmentionshavingtwopairsof
parallellines?Theparallelogram!Infact,allshapeswithtwopairsofparallelsides
arecalledparallelograms.Thatiswhythetopshapeonthetreewhichbranchesoff
istheparallelogram.Pleasegluethatshapedownandmakeanoteinyournotebook
ofthat(writedownthedefinitionofparallelogram).Nowtakealookattheother
shapesthatwehaveasoptions.Here,wehaveseveralshapesthatfollowthatrule
(pointatsquare,rhombus,rectangle).Alloftheseshapeshavetwosetsoflinesthat
