Prompt: Discuss the role of religious dissent in the New

England colonies.
Thesis: Religious dissent in the New England colonies
challenged gender roles and altered Native American
relations.
Body Ex:
Religious dissent in New England significantly differed from
the traditional gender roles of Puritan expectations. Anne
Hutchinson was banished for her ideologies concerning
women;she was a brilliant and outspoken woman who held
religious discussion groups in her home. By holding
discussion groups in her home, Hutchinson was defying
Puritan values as only Ministers, who were male, could review
religion. Hutchinsons meetings clearly displayed her
defiance as a woman within Puritan culture. Additionally,
Quakers also differed from Purtans treatment of women.
