10- The framing
of the cover
image could
have been
better as the
top of the
artists jeans are
in the shot. This
makes it look
slightly messy
and could have
been taken as a
mid-shot from
the waist up;
making it more
professional
looking. The
framing of the
contents image
could have
been better as
part of the
artist has either
not been
captured or
cropped out.
The double
page spread
image could
have been
taken closer
and at a lower
angle so it
doesnt look as
awkward.
18- This
magazine uses
minimal shot
ranges as the
only shots seen
are
medium/long
shots and one
high angled
image. This
doesnt look
professional,
especially
because the
images are
taken in odd
places and

dont relate to
the genre of
magazine. The
image on the
contents page
looks
awkwardly
placed and
doesnt fit with
the colour
scheme.
13- The cover
image slightly
relates to the
genre of
magazine as
the use of
headphones
allows the
reader to know
it is a music
magazine.
However, her
outfit choice
does not relate
as it looks too
casual to fit
with any music
genre. The
positioning of
the artist is
slightly
awkward and
could be placed
better;
depending on
genre.
13- The colours
used suggest
the magazine
would be of a
pop genre as
they are quite
vibrant.
However, the
outfit does not
relate to this as
it is too casual.
The location of
the images
doesnt relate
to this as they
are standard
class rooms and

been taken in a
better place.
10- The
cropping of the
image on the
double page
spread could
have been
better as there
is a lot of
background
around the
artist. This
would make it
look neater.
Part of the
artists hair and

artist.

33- The
language used
is relatively
good as the use
of acronyms
such as OMG
relate to the
way pop culture
is always
changing and
stands out;
much like the
OMG! on the
cover. The
register is
informal which,
again, relates
to the genre as
it isnt that
formal.
However, it
could be better.
11- The text
colour on the
cover clashes
with the colours
used in the
artists outfit.
This makes it
harder to make
out what the

words are. A
clearer font
would make it
easier to read
too. The
contents text is
placed well at
the side of the
image so it
doesnt merge;
making it more
understandable
. However,
article text is
slanted and the
spacing of the
text doesnt
match which
makes it messy.

MEDIA STUDIES AFL 2016

28- A basic
knowledge is
shown as the
creator uses
the structure of
a Z on the
cover as the
readers eyeline
goes from the
grey masthead
to the grey text
down the page.
The contents
page is set out
simply with the
text down the
left hand side
of the image
like most
magazine
contents. The
article is set out
in columns
which, again, is
simple and
follows the
same format as
a lot of
magazines.
26- Overall, the
font size isnt
too bad. The
masthead is
large and bold
which makes it
stand out more

and key pieces

of text are
larger too.
However, the
text could have
been smaller in
some areas
such as the
date, issue
number and the
quotation on
the article.
using ICT
appropriately for
the task set

10- The
magazine,
overall, isnt
very
impressive. This
suggests the
creator doesnt
have very good
knowledge of IT
skills such as
programs like
Photoshop. The
magazine may
look cleaner
and better
presented if the
creator was
able to function
helpful
programs.

Summary Comment:

The magazine was poor and would need a lot of changes to be

successful.
