Production Brief
Purpose of the Production
The main purpose of our opening sequence is as a
learning block, to highlight our strengths and weaknesses
in all areas of production so that we may improve upon
them in the future. We want to produce a sequence that
follows the codes and conventions of the thriller genre.
Therefore, this opening sequence is being produced
specifically for those within the young people
demographic, so our target audience is between 15 and
25 years old.
Description of the Production
We are producing a two-minute opening sequence of a
film under the thriller genre. With this genre, we will be
able to film a wide range of shots form multiple angles,
and well be able to construct a narrative that is both
simplistic and intriguing.
The sequence begins in a state of equilibrium, with our
female protagonist, Marissa, waiting outside a park to be
picked up by her mother. The disruption begins when
Marissas mother calls to tell her that the car has broken
down, so shell have to take a shortcut through an
abandoned farm. As time progresses, she eventually
arrives at the farm and begins walking through, looking
around her for anything suspicious. Unbeknownst to
Marissa, an unseen creature is hiding behind part of an old
trailer, watching Marissa closely before it leaps out from
its hiding place and begins to chase her. Marissa jumps
over a fence, dropping her bag to ease the weight so she
can get away. She eventually reaches a clearing in the
forest, where she also removes her blazer as she becomes
more paranoid. Her breathing has accelerated and she
begins to looks around her again. The audience then
becomes aware that the creature has creped up behind
Marissa, but it is too late as it grabs her, and all that it
heard at the end is her screams.
