What is the relationship between people and the world? How did it get that way?
In The Matrix, humans are all living in what looks like the real world but is actually just a
computer program. In reality the humans are actually hooked up to tubes in pods and are being
used as a life source for intelligent robots that have taken over the world. Almost all of the
people in The Matrix have no idea that it isnt real life except for a few that the story follows.
The main character is Neo and he is supposed to be the person who can change anything in The
Matrix. So the relationship between the people and the world is that they think that The Matrix is
their normal world and only some people know differently. The relationship between the people
and the real world is that they are just a contained unmoving source of food for the artificial
intelligence. For the humans who are awake, their relationship with the world is one that forces
them to run and hide from hostile robots.
What is the relationship between people and technology? How did it get that way?
The relationship between people and technology in the film is that the technology is the
ruling force. The main character is a hacker and the other characters in the film use technology to
their advantage as well. This shows that the people who are aware of it are using technology
against technology. Instead of trying to stay away from technology out of fear, they try to use it
to their advantage. Technology threatens to become smarter than humans, but technology doesnt
have to be smarter than us to enslave us. As long as humans turn to technology to solve human
problems, humans and technology are interdependent. The machines are dependent on the
humans for life, and they grow and harvest humans so they can continue to exist. Humans dont
rely on the machines for their existenceAt one point humans needed artificial intelligence for
something, and so created A.I. to fulfill that need.

What is the story telling us about the concerns of the day?

People are afraid of technology and where it will lead to in the future. They are afraid that we are
becoming too dependent on technology. It has still been a concern since the movie came out as
technology increases to get better that we are becoming lazier and that technology is taking over
pretty much every aspect of everyday life.
