CHECK FOR COLUMN SHEAR (clause 3.8.4.

6)
Column shear checked in accordance with clause 3.4.5.12 of BS 8110:1997 part1.
No shear check is required if M/N does not exceed 0.6h and v does not exceed
maximum value given in clause 3.4.5.12
Clause 3.4.5.12 Shear and axial load
The design shear stress vc that can be supported by a section subjected to shear
and axial compression
without shear reinforcement can be calculated from equation:
vc = vc + 0.6*(NVh)/(AcM)
where,
vc is the shear stress obtained from Table 3.8 Value of design concrete shear
stress;
vc = 0.79{100As/(bvd)}^(1/3)* (400/d)^(1/4)m
N is the applied axial load;
V is the shear;
M is the moment;
Ac is the gross area of the concrete section
Note: The value of Vh/M should be taken as not greater than 1.
If v exceeds vc shear reinforcement should be provided in accordance with Table
3.7 where vc is replaced by vc.
v should not exceed 0.8*sqrt(fcu) or 5 N/mm2.
