is an entrepreneur who is #100 on
Forbes 2015 ranking of The
Worlds Billionaires. A full
one-hundred percent of his wealth
is self-made. Tesla Motors, an
electriccarcompany,hasbeenin-
creasinglyprofitablesinceitscre-
ationin2003.

1. Tesla Motors was created to
prove that electric cars could be
betterthangasoline-poweredcars.

mind when they proved capable of

2. Tesla launched the worlds
very first electric premium sedan:

business, Tesla outsourced more
thanhalfofthemanufacturing.
In 2008, the government had
agreed to loan the company $465
million. However, Musk did not
have afactorytoproducetheirnew
model, the Roadster. In order to
keepupwithdemand,Muskhadto
assemble each car individually ina
garagebehindtheshowroom.
6. Teslas stockpriceshaverisen
over 600% since the beginning of
2013.
Teslas market cap is about $30
million, which ismorethan50%of
the value of GM. However, GM is
expected to sell 300 times the
amount of cars that Tesla is
expectedtosell.
7. Musk is planning to build a
factory to manufacture batteries
forTeslasautomobiles.
In order to make the newest
model at a decent price, Musk
would have to create a plant with
the ability tomanufacture500,000
lithium-ion battery packs per year,
which is equal to what the entire
world is producing at this time.

The costs to manufacture the

2009 to supply them to a German

ships to build the electric batteries
