David Gustafson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical


Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and joined Dow in 1979 at the
Plaquemine, Louisiana site. While in Louisiana, he rotated through variety of
engineering assignments at the Vinyl Chloride production plant and the Chlor-
Alkali II production plant. He also worked in the Louisiana Environmental
Services group where he had responsibility for the site Water and Solid Waste
programs.

David transferred to Midland, Michigan in 1989 to join the Environmental Quality


group as an Air Issues Manager for US manufacturing sites. His primary
responsibilities included advocacy on the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments and
the development of regulatory standards with the Environmental Protection
Agency. In 1997, David became a Resource Leader in the Environment, Health
& Safety (EH&S) Regulatory Affairs Expertise Center, with overall responsibility
for the Dow federal air team. From October, 2001 to April, 2003, he also served
as Dow’s Opportunity Leader for the public policy issues related to Security
Preparedness and Terrorism.

In April 2003, David became the Regulatory Affairs Leader for Michigan and
regional regulatory agencies. In this role, David is the lead Dow interface with
the state and regional government regulatory agencies and officials, primarily the
Michigan DEQ and EPA Region 5. David also leads Dow’s EH&S involvement
with trade and business associations, in support of Dow businesses and sites
located across Michigan.
