Section 2 Awards Policy

Section 2 Awards
I.
Section 2 Distinguished Service Key (DSK)
a. The highest distinction that can be given at the sectional level. The DSK is
awarded to a Brother who goes above and beyond the call of duty at the sectional
level.
b. Criteria
i. Distinguished service on the sectional level through outstanding
contribution to the association as a whole
ii. Exemplifying, in demonstrable ways, the three cardinal principles of
Leadership, Friendship, and Service
iii. Making a sustainable contribution in a leadership role over a period of
time (recommended 2 years)
c. Nominations will be presented during the section business meeting, where the
nominator may speak on behalf of the nominee (limit of 5 minutes). Following a 5
minute discussion, a vote will be taken amongst voting delegates, where a
affirmative vote is needed to award the DSK.
II.

Outstanding Chapter of Service Award


a. Awarded to a Chapter for exemplifying an outstanding service program, with
consideration to variety of projects as well as the number of service hours per
active member in the current year.
b. In order to be eligible, each chapter must submit the completed award nomination
form specific for this award.

III.

Distinguished Brother of Service Award - Awarded to an Active Brother who has


exemplified an exemplary spirit towards service.

IV.

Distinguished Brother of Friendship Award - Awarded to an Active Brother who


best embodies the cardinal principle of friendship within the section.

V.

Distinguished Brother of Leadership Award- Awarded to an Active Brother who


has demonstrated significant and impacting leadership within the section.

VI.

Outstanding Pledge Brother Award - Awarded to a Brother who significantly


demonstrated Leadership, Friendship, and Service as a pledge of the current year.

VII.

Alumni Torch Award Awarded to a Brother who has shown continued dedication
and service to Alpha Phi Omega as an alumni member.

VIII.

Section 2 Certificate of Appreciation - A certificate awarded by the section chair at


his/her discretion for any reason and at any time. Recipient may be a non-member.
Certificates may also be obtained from the national office.

Eligibility
Any active member of a chapter within the section may be considered for an award
unless otherwise stated and provided they meet the criteria for the award in question.
Frequency
Awards will be given at the sectional conference of each year.
Number of Awards
Unless otherwise stated for an award, there shall be neither a limit to the number of
awards given nor is there a requirement that every award be presented.
Nominations
Nominations must be provided in writing for all awards, and must be submitted 5 days
(unless otherwise stated) prior to the sectional conference. Nominations will include all of the
reasons and supporting information as to why the proposed recipient is being nominated. The
Chapter Service award nominations will be submitted to the Section Service Chair. Section
Service, Friendship, Leadership, Pledge, and Alumni award nominations must be submitted to
the designated Section Awards Chair as appointed by the Section Chair. A nomination is required
for consideration for any award and will include the nominees name, the nominators name, and
a description of why the nominee deserves said award.
Awards Committee
The awards committee will consist of the Section Awards Chair, one alumni
representative from each chapter, and one active member from each chapter who is not a
nominee. If an alumni representative is unavailable, a second active member may represent the
chapter. Nominations may be reviewed by committee members prior to the Sectional conference.
Award recipients shall be selected by a majority vote. The Section Awards Chair will vote in the
case of a tie.
All deliberations of the awards committee shall remain closed and only committee
members may be present. All other information, including the list of nominees that did not
receive an award, shall be destroyed following adjournment.
Awards Presentation
All awards shall be presented at the sectional conference of each year prior to the end of
the conference. No information of recipients shall be divulged until this time.
