UNIT 7: TRIGONOMETRY
Remember:
Trigonometric ratios:
- Tangent of an Angle (tan a): is the ratio of the opposite side and adjacent side.

- Sine of an Angle (sin a): is the ratio of the opposite side to the hypotenuse side.

- Cosine of an Angle (cos a ): is the ratio of the adjacent side and hypotenuse side.

Exercise 1:
You are building a ramp so that people in wheelchairs can access a building. If the ramp must be 90 feet long
and it must have a height of 8 feet, Find the angle the ramp makes with the ground.

Exercise 2:
A 50 foot high tree casts a shadow of length 60 feet. What is the angle of elevation from the end of the shadow
to the top of the tree with respect to the ground?

Exercise 3:
The tallest free-standing structure in the world is the 553 metre high CN Tower in Toronto. What will be the
length of the shadow of the tower on a day that the angle of elevation of the sun is 50?

Exercise 5:
A kite is 33 m above the ground. The kite string makes an angle of 38 with the ground. Assuming that the string
is taut, how much string is out (to the nearest tenth)?

Exercise 6:
A 5.2 m ladder leans against a wall. The bottom of the ladder is 1.9 m from the wall. What angle does the ladder
make with the ground (to the nearest degree)?
