Chief Vitiello and I met with Brownsville Mayor Ahumada on Tuesday to discuss fencing, etc. He
provided a brochure showing the proposed Brownsville Public Utilities Board weir & reservoir project.
The scope of this project is much larger than the IBWC earthen levee upgrades discussed in Hidalgo.
This project would be located 8 miles downstream from the Gateway bridge and would create a
reservoir 42 miles upstream with an average width of 110 feet and depth of 11 feet (max of 27). The
mayor also discussed his plans for a riverwalk in downtown Brownsville and his goal of providing a
safe and welcoming environment. Chief Vitiello told the Mayor that any operational requirements for
design of BP fencing would need to take into account projects like these and encouraged him to
continue talking to him.

The status and timeline for the reservoir project were unclear. Funding appears to have been secured
on the US side but funding and agreements with Mexico are pending.

We also met briefly with Cameron County Judge Cascos. He emphasized the need to look for ways to
work together to enhance BP's ability to patrol the area, such as clearing carrizo cane to improve lines
of sight and upgrading patrol roads.

Please letme know if you have any questions or need additional information.

Thank you,
David
