Sagola, MI 49881 (906) 396-9500 jlweiss@mtu.edu September 16th, 2015 Dear Hiring Staff, My name is Julia Weiss and I am sincerely interested in pursuing a career in public relations or related marketing management position for your company. I graduate in spring of 2016 from Michigan Technological University with a B.A. in scientific and technical communication, after which I will be able to take on a full-time position. As an employee I believe in the highest level of professionalism, a goal-oriented mindset, and a positive outlook. Given the chance to utilize my education and professional experience I can contribute significantly to the companys best interest. At 19 I began an internship in public affairs at the VA medical center in Iron Mountain, Michigan. I was invited to return each year and the internship spanned throughout my college career. Now 22 years old, I have a rich and diverse experience in the field of communication. The responsibilities I took on ranged from every day public relation tasks to yearlong projects. I feel very comfortable with community and media relations after having participated in many interviews, and written more press releases, public service announcements, and media advisories than I can recall. Internally, I designed newsletters, brochures, flyers, presentations and more to address the needs of varying audiences. In 2013, I wrote the Memorial Day speech for the medical centers director. In 2014, a competition was held and I designed the winning logo for the medical centers 65th anniversary. In 2015, the intranet redesign, a project I had gathered extensive data on for several years was completed and went live. Beyond assignments given, I set my own innovative goals, which led to the medical centers first intern committee, program revisions, and a new tradition, the annual supervisor-intern luncheon. My latest involvement is as a volunteer, working to develop a communication plan at Michigan Tech to assist in promoting the VAs Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), an internship program that recruits students with disabilities. Through these experiences I have gained a lot. I possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude that is crucial in delivering productivity and success, I truly believe that I can be an asset in any position where hard work, enthusiasm and reliability are required. I greatly appreciate your consideration and hope to hear back soon. Please feel free to contact me by phone (906) 396-9500 or email at jlweiss@mtu.edu any time. Thank you. Sincerely,
