Portfolio Assignment #2 Proposal: The Single Image
For this project I was inspired by the works of Christian Boltanski. I find his use of light
and small objects to create a story of shadows very mystical and brings me back to fond
memories as a child. To me, this form of telling a story brings back the ancient Native American
ways of narrating the history of a battle or lessons we learn from nature through the practice of
smoke signal rituals. It also reminds me of the Deathly Hallows story telling in Harry Potter and
the Deathly Hallows pt. 1.

My interpretation of this project has lead me to try and capture the

celebration of Easter. I want to use objects in the shape of your traditional Easter
signs: eggs, bunnies, and the rebirth of nature. To do this I am going to cut out some
designs in the likenesses previously stated and then have several sources of light
beaming down on them with different colored cellophane covering the lights to give
different tints.
