CASE STUDY #1

AN ISLAND FIRESTORM

If I were the official concern, after knowing the findings of the chemists, that the
grounds water were contaminated, the drinking water taken from deep wells in the
island were highly contaminated with coliform (bacteria found in human wastes) and
were dangerous to health and the sea became unsafe too due to contamination from
sewerage system through seepage, I will immediately ask an emergency meeting or call
the attention of commercial tourism establishment owners, occupants, residents,
barangay officials and other government officials concern to discuss if what is the right
thing to do to protect the health of the community especially the tourist and visitors.
As a public official or official concern, it is my obligation to promote the well-being
or welfare of my community at large. I will encourage the people within the community
to clean and put their garbage in the proper places. A community, like an individual, is
living organism, whose health is a result of a complex web of factors and events some
of which it consciously controls and some of which it doesnt. Like a truly healthy human
body, a truly healthy community is one which all systems function as they should and
work together to make the community function well. A healthy community is one in
which all the citizens can be assured of a decent quality of life economically,
physically, environmentally, socially and politically.
