U.S. CDC predicted 550,000 Ebola Cases in
Liberia and Sierra Leone by January 2015
9,936 cases to date
4,877 deaths
2,132 bed deficit to keep up with new cases (ZERO Beds in
Liberia)

US Response
USAFRICOM set up Joint Force Command in Monrovia
Establish a regional staging base to facilitate and expedite
transportation of equipment supplies and personnel (Roberts
International Airport or Aerial Port of Debarkation, APOD)
Command Engineers will build additional Ebola Treatment
Units (ETU) in affected areas
Establish training site for 500 health care workers per week
USPHS to deploy team to manage healthcare workers who
become ill (Monrovia Medical Unit, MMU)

Support to Operation United Assistance


Ebola Relief in West Africa
Fluor's Rapid Deployment Team arrived in Liberia within 72 hours of notice to proceed
to arrange LOGCAP services for US military Ebola relief efforts in West Africa from
Sep 2014 to Apr 2015
Operated under LOGCAP IV Task Order 13
Mobilized a 1,000 person workforce to meet mission requirements and efficiently
demobilized team upon mission completion
Installed and provided O&M of facilities capable of supporting 3,400 personnel
Developed protocols to mitigate health risks to employees; incurred zero incidents

Airfield Challenges
Coordinating critical repairs versus what was in the Task Order
Coordinating airfield shutdown and NOTAM (& keeping it shut down)
Coordinating backup equipment and contingency plans
Finding appropriate and usable equipment
Quality Control to ensure repair met UFC criteria
