Suspect Arrest After Firing Shots At Officers

On February 18th, 2016, around 1:30 AM the Overland Park Police Department received an
emergency call regarding an armed disturbance in the 10800 block of Mackey Street. The

party also advised her boyfriend was attempting to obtain a gun from inside the apartment.
When officers arrived they attempted contact with the male inside an apartment. The male made
verbal contact with officers but did not exit the apartments bedroom. Officers continued to have
verbal contact with the male inside the apartment, but the male refused to exit the bedroom for
officers. At one point the male began firing shots at officers, from inside the bedroom. Officers
were able to exit the apartment and did not fire any shots at the male.
An on-duty negotiator arrived at the scene and made contact with the male. Around 2:30 AM
officers were able to persuade the male to exit the apartment. The male was taken into custody,
without further incident, and later transported to the Johnson County Jail to await formal
charging.
