"But Prometheus looked to Zeus in vain; he did not have compassion for man."
Explanation
Prometheus is asking Zeus for help because he pities man. However, since Zeus does
not want man to have any great power, he refuses to help them. This causes
Prometheus to go behind Zeus's back in order to help man survive, which is exactly
what Zeus did not want him to do.
