With a CARE Team meeting the following day, should we, as Jenny, invite
a member of the Athletic Department to the meeting?
Yes, we could invite the Director of Athletics, a Title IX coordinator
within athletics, or another administrator that specifically supports
student athletes, such as Alyssa, in their holistic student development.
Should we reach out to Dr. Langs Department chair to discuss
this situation and dig for factual evidence?
Yes, it would be in our best interest to reach out to Dr. Langs department
chair on behalf of the CARE Team and to have Ted Shone, the Director
of Residence Life, as a supporting representative. Ted has a great working
relationship with the faculty on campus; this would be useful for gaining
the buy-in of the academic department for launching an investigation
regarding the relationship between Dr. Lang and Alyssa.
To better understand how to protect a student-athlete
survivor, athletics will benefit from consultation with an appropriate
campus partner If the survivor is a student-athlete and chooses to
continue with or return to a team, athletics may have a role
in the recovery process. (Wilson, 2004)
