Director

Job Description

The Glens Centre, a pioneering arts centre in Manorhamilton County Leitrim, wishes to appoint a
Director with the experience, vision and passion to animate the Centres vision of finding new ways to
make art happen. The ideal candidate will be a person with exceptional leadership skills who will
demonstrate a clear artistic vision for the future development of the centre.
Job Description
The Director will report to the Glens board and will expand and develop the artistic programme. The
Director will lead the organisation through the next phase of its artistic and organisational development
and have final responsibility for the sound financial management of the arts centre and for overseeing a
turnover in excess of 200K. S/he will implement creative and consistent marketing strategies as
appropriate to its programme and will have a clear understanding of the challenges of audience
development.
Person Specification
The Director will
show excellent artistic and organizational leadership, will work effectively with the staff and
board and will be a skilled communicator and collaborator. S/he will be the arts centres
advocate in the community, and will be a leader who will elevate the profile of The Glens Centre
locally, nationally and internationally. S/he will have an excellent knowledge of contemporary
arts practice in a variety of areas
have experience in programming and will ideally have experience of managing a venue
will develop the landmark building in which the Glens Centre is housed
have experience of commissioning, curating, working with artists in venues and
outreach/community contexts
have at least 3 years experience of managing significant teams and budgets, and of contract
negotiation, within an arts environment
be responsible for staff welfare, including safety, training and discipline and ensure adequate
reviews are implemented reviewing performance, time keeping, and productivity of all staff

have a good understanding of the challenges of audience development for a regional multidisciplinary arts centre
demonstrate ability to manage and develop additional relationships with key stakeholders in the
organisation

The Director has final responsibility for


Artistic programming and contract negotiation
Financial management
Marketing, communication and audience development
Management and recruitment of staff
Relationship with artists
Building management
Sponsorship & relationships with funding bodies
Terms and Conditions
Contract:
3 years (with 6-month probationary period)
Salary:
40K
Working hours: 35 hours per week. Duty at weekends and at night (as required) will be an integral part
of the working week
Holidays:
25 days (includes Good Friday and 24 December) plus all public holidays
A contribution towards relocation expenses will be made and/or accommodation for the first 4 weeks of
employment.
