I have used this resource in the classroom for the last three
years. I mostly use it as a way to keep in touch with my
students and provide them with an opportunity to respond to
each other outside of the classroom. Although there are
other great features on this site I have either not gotten
around to using them or have used other mandatory
websites to keep track of students and their grades, for
example. Edmodo is super user-friendly and very reliable
website. I have not had any issues with it. My students enjoy
using it as well especially because there is an app for it.
Grockit is geared towards secondary students who are
looking for test prep and tutoring for tests like the SATs,
ACTs, GMAT, and GREs. If I were teaching high school I
would recommend this site to my students in order to
prepare and/or give them some time to work on this website
in class.
This year, I wanted to try to incorporate blogging into my
classroom mostly to get students comfortable with writing
and discussing. I didnt know many sites at the time, but I
came across Edublogs and I went with it because it catered
towards teachers and students and seemed safe. However,
Edublogs was not very user friendly for my students or
myself. I would recommend this website for someone who is
familiar with web design and possibly a higher-grade level.
Teachers can use Skype in their classroom settings for their
students to get a chance to interact with people or places
they wouldnt normally be able to interact with. Skype is
easy to use for both students and teachers and can be used
to host guest speakers on various topics or take students
on virtual field trips.
Wikispaces is an easy website where students can
collaborate online with teacher supervision. Whole
classroom websites can be created using wikispaces or the
site can be used for blogs or collaborative projects.
Pinterest is an easy to use and user-friendly social site that
can benefit anyone. Pinterest allows you to search for a
multitude of ideas in various categories and save each item
you like to your own board. I personally have a bulletin

Schoology is an easy website that combines various tools
into one toolbox. Teachers can discuss, plan, and
collaborate all on Schoology. I have not had the opportunity
to work with this website, however, if I did I would use it as a
central space for all discussions and Profession Learning
Communities.
Quora is a community based on questions and answers.
Anyone who has a question about any topic can ask the
community and receive answers from experts, people with
personal experiences, or people who have done some
research on the topic. At first, this site was little confusing,
but like any other social site practice makes perfect. Any
teacher can ask questions from topics like integrating new
concepts into your lessons to classroom management.
Create your own social network with Ning. Ning allows
anyone to create an online community. This can be used for
various group projects, clubs and activities, book discussion,
etc.
OpenStudy is a virtual study group that helps students in
any subject. Teachers can use this site as a resource for
their students or as a Qualified Helper making extra money
outside the classroom.
This is a site that enables teachers to find colleagues
outside of their work environment. Teachers can log in and
get in touch with teachers who are teaching the same grade
level, subject, and/or topic and get inspiration, ideas, and
lessons.

Teachers can use Khan Academy in their classroom to

reinforce, introduce, or teach a skill. Although the initial
features are intriguing (free accounts, lessons, videos, etc.)
it can be an unreliable source for teachers who do not teach
Math or Science.
This gaming site allows teachers to enroll their students as a
class so they may play math games to enforce a skill that
was taught in their class. Skills range for all grade levels.
Though this website is intriguing and easy to use, free trials
only last for 30 days which may not be ideal.
Funbrain is an as easy gaming site for students. Although
there are some reading selections, Funbrain seems to focus

Educreations is a free app that can be thought of as a virtual
whiteboard. Teachers can use this app to teach lessons and
record at the same time. Once recorded, educators can
share their videos to the class, with parents, or other
teachers. Students can use this app to bring a new type of
slideshow to the classroom. Not only can it record what the
user is doing, but it allows students and teachers to record
audio as well. A basic free version is available.
Much like iMovie, Animoto allows its users to import photos,
videos, audio, and music in order to create visually
appealing movies. The key differences are you do not need
an Apple device and the site is a little less costly than iMovie.
Science teachers can use this movie-producing site to
record experiments and share it with their students.
This is a website that links to mobile devices. Teachers can
post a question and receive instant feedback displayed on a
board or computer. Super easy to use and could be used for
exit slips or checkpoints.
Knewton is an adaptive learning system. Each student
creates their own profile and can receive lessons that cater
to their strengths and weaknesses. Every lesson is
individualized and progress is made easy to track for
teachers. Teachers can use this to reinforce or teach a skill.
Kerpoof was a Disney created site that encouraged kids to
foster their creativity. Unfortunately, the site is no longer
available for users.
StudySync is aimed at reading, writing, and critical thinking
skills. Teachers can choose a selection of reading for their
students to complete and guide them through the reading
and writing tasks. Once students reach the end of a task,
students submit an essay for teacher and peer review. This
website is very intriguing. It allows teachers to use text that
can be accessed anywhere thats paired with videos and
audio. Unfortunately, this is not a free website.
CarrotSticks is no longer available.

Many educators have used or know of Teachers Pay

Teachers. Here, teachers of all subject areas can find ideas

perhaps to highlight words that belong to a unit.

Any teacher can use QR codes around their classroom.

Just like a barcode holds information of an item, a QR code
holds information that anyone can read or watch. Teachers
can generate these codes and have students scan them on
QR Codes
their mobile or classroom device and read information
pertaining to a certain subject. For example, Language Arts
or Drama teachers may make a poster of William
Shakespeare and create a QR code that links informational
videos, websites, or images to his writing, life, or plays.
Students or teachers can create their own flashcards about

I use YouTube on a weekly basis to provide visuals to my
classes. Videos are mostly used to introduce a new skill
and/or concept and if my kids are directed to conduct their
own research they use YouTube as a valuable tool. This site
is very user friendly, but can sometimes be unreliable. Some
Youtubers post videos supplying false information. I would
suggest teachers comb through videos before showing
them to their classes and guide students through research
An AWESOME resource for teachers. Ted-Ed contains
FREE mini-lessons for all subject areas. Super easy to use
and if you dont like a lesson in its entirety you can
customize it and even submit your modified lesson as a
contributor.
This is a pretty cool site that allows you to make posters
online. Posters can be about anything you have taught in
class or just flyers that contain reminders. Share your
posters through any of your classroom websites.
Turn lessons into visually appealing videos with audio with
Creaza. Students can use this site as well to display their
content knowledge. Options range from comic strips, audio,

Diingo is an awesome and easy to use website that allows

anyone to search within its browser and save information
they feel is important. This is ideal for students who must
research a topic for class. Diingo allows students to save,
highlight, organize, and annotate.
Apple iPads have been used in my classroom scarcely, but
when they were used they were a success. Students are
100% engaged when using these tablets for multiple
reasons including its easy to use technology. Various tools
on iPads can be used to enhance a lesson such as creating
a persuasive campaign using iMovie.
Aviary is a free photo-editing app aimed for teachers and
students. Art or visual media classes come to mind when I
think of this site, but teachers should take caution, as all
images on this online community are not necessarily
appropriate.
This site allows teachers to record what they are doing while
teaching lessons online or capture images they have
created. When teachers do that they can share these
images on various sites. Ideas include leaving explicit
instructions for a substitute, walking through a syllabus,
showing students how to access information for a web quest
or log into a website.
Popplet is considered a mind-map that helps students think
and learn visually. Students can capture facts, thoughts, and
images and learn to create relationships between them by
creating their own graphic organizer.
Google Earth allows you to bring students to places they
may never go to. Just type in an address or landmark and
take a quick journey anywhere in the world. This could be
great for Social Studies, Art, or Foreign Language Classes.
This is a great resource for teachers to get materials they
may need in class but do not have easy access to.
Requests can range from computers to field trips.
On SlideShare, teachers can access already created
slideshows to display to their classes or create their own
slideshow to teach a lesson and share it with the community
so each student has access to it outside of the classroom.
LiveBinder seems like an awesome site where you can keep
any important information electronically. Teachers can
create e-portfolios for easy access and easy viewing,
encourage students to create their own e-portfolios, keep
entire units, professional development information,
administration can supply employees with employee
handbooks, and so much more.
