Dear Governor Pat McCrory,

My name is Tamara Oglesby and I am a student at The University of North Carolina

at Pembroke. Currently I am a Social Work Major seeking to advocate and help those
in need. Today I write this letter to you to advocate on behalf of The Voice for North
Carolinas Children, which is an advocacy group that strives to advance public
policies that improve the lives of North Carolinas children.
As a Social Work Major I have been required to intern in the school system, in which
I witness the devastating effects that the economy has on children every day. Some
students come to school in worn out clothes, lacking proper utensils, and even
undernourished. Some of these children are not even old enough to help themselves
or even find the proper help that they need. There have even been several deaths
in the last few weeks due to the lack of supervision provided by parents because
they have had to take on several jobs, just to keep a roof over their heads. I wish
this was just another fictional story being told however, this is the harsh reality that
some children are currently living in.
I believe that as a community it is important for us to come together to help those
that are in need. There is a major issue that needs to be addressed amongst, North
Carolinas Children especially in the school system. If we wont to pave the way for
the children who are the future of tomorrow, then it is important that we strive to
enact change within North Carolina. With this being said, I hope you find it in your
heart to make contact with The Voice of North Carolinas Children, so that you too
can help enact change for our children. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Tamara Oglesby
