To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this recommendation in regard to Erin Keeling who I have had the pleasure of supervising at both Falconer-Chapman School in Sheridan and Chehalem Valley Middle School in Newberg. Erins focus is mid level language arts/social studies . My supervision period has run from September of 2015 to the present. My role is to do formal classroom observations, support the development of an Edtpa unit, which was completed in early 2016 and provide feedback and support as she completes her teacher training. Erin has a very calm and focused demeanor as she teaches. She is very comfortable in her role as the instructional leader and works hard to find activities that provide students with the opportunity to actively participate in the learning. She has excellent relationships with her students and provides effective group and individual support as students work through the various lessons she teaches. Her approach to classroom management is also very effective. She has high expectations for her students and they respond to her corrective strategies. Having worked for many years with mid-level students, I know how challenging they can be. Erin understands how important the planning process is and how it relates to effective management. Erin uses both visual and auditory modes as she teaches. Her pacing of lessons is good and allows for student input and questions for clarification. Whenever possible she provides for kinesthetic support of the learning, which this level of learner enjoys. Erins classroom work has been exceptional. Lesson plans are always turned in on time and are very comprehensive as she addresses standards, objectives, academic language, formal and informal assessments and differentiation as needed. I believe that Erin would be an excellent team member. Her relationship with both cooperating teachers is excellent and they have absolute trust in her ability to handle the classroom independently. She is motivated, organized, knowledgeable, creative and passionate about her chosen profession.
