ROBO 366 Suggested Projects

Shown below is a list of suggested projects for your perusal that range somewhat in
complexity. The number of members in the group can be used to offset complexity in
order to maintain equality. You may want to choose one of the listed projects, a portion
of one of the listed projects or combine two projects together. Perhaps you already have
an idea about what you want to propose.
These projects can be driven either pneumatically, electrically or a combination of both.
Instrumentation of PLCs and /or microcontrollers is encouraged.
1. Robotic keyboard
Robotic arm to operate a computer keyboard for the disabled
Voice recognition
2. Fully Automatic Vacuum Cleaner
Similar to T.V. advertisement
Or-pick up metallic chips in the machine shop
3. Miniature CNC Mill or Lathe
Simplified
Does not have to be extremely accurate
Machines wax or plastic, wood or aluminum. Doesnt have to machine
steel
4. Engraving Machine
Similar to CNC Mill or Lathe
5. Automated chess/checker player
Pantograph action to play chess/checkers
User slips her/his hand/arm in to one side of machine
Powered side of machine mimics the users movement
6. Automated CD Loader
Automated hand/arm to pick up and load a CD in to CD player
Multiple CD choices (2-4) through selection switch
OR, random pick up points using sensors to locate CD
7. Robotic Masseuse
Stretches out to sense and find work area
Various program cycles
8. Automated Table Setter
Places plates and/or utensils in pre-programmed locations
9. Robotic Bowling Alley
One multilink arm swinging to roll a tennis ball towards upright objects
Arm motion must be smooth and human like
10. Automated Soft Drink Dispenser
Arm/hand to pick up and pour a soft drink in to a glass
Pre-determined pick up and pour locations
