The theme of this song is love. Love is shown in many different ways, and comes in many different forms.
This song expresses how people of the same sex should be able to publicly show their love for one another
and not be criticized for it. Another theme throughout this song is equality. It talks about how everyone
should be given equal rights, regardless of their differences or beliefs.

The music video for this song shows the journey of a gay man. It shows what he went through because of his
love for other men. The video follows the man from adolescence, to death and everything in between.

I find this song very powerful to the society we live in. I think that it was very brave for Macklemore to
release this song, because he is a rapper. Although he is a rapper, he was willing to put this song out and
withstand all the hateful remarks thrown his way. He uses his platform to positively impact our society and
teach the youth how to be respectful towards one another. It is poetic to have artists like him in our society.
