Bike Week
The Shire of East Pilbara is celebrating Bike Week with the launch of their new
Newman Recreation Map. This handy pocket sized map illustrates the dual use
walk/cycle paths around Newman to encourage us to all use active transport to
discover Newman.
SATURDAY 12 MARCH
Pick up a free copy of the map and join in a COMMUNITY BIKE RIDE followed by a free healthy
breakfast. Cyclists should meet at the Newman Recreation Centre at 7am.
All ages and abilities are welcome, although children should be accompanied
by a parent/guardian. HELMETS MANDATORY.
Not a cyclist? Join us anyway for a free healthy breakfast at the
Recreation Centre from 8am.

Companion Cards
The Shire of East Pilbara has introduced the
Companion Card ensuring that people with
disability in the East Pilbara have the same
opportunities to access Shire services and
events as others.
The Companion Card is issued to people
with a significant and permanent disability
who require attendant care support from
a companion. With this card, companions
in the East Pilbara will now be granted free
admission to Shire venues as attendant care
support. This includes the Newman Aquatic
Centre and the Newman Recreation Centre.
This is a very positive decision by Council
as not only is it fair for the companions
of people with disability but it also helps
ensure that the Shire of East Pilbara venues
comply with existing anti-discrimination
legislation, said Shire President Lynne
Craigie.
The Companion Card program has been
running in WA since 2006. The Companion
Card is issued to people with a significant
and permanent disability who require
attendant care support from a companion
to participate at most venues and activities.
For more information about the
Companion Card please contact the
Manager Recreation and Events Simmone
Van Buerle at the Shire on 9175 8000 or
