Year 6 Newsletter

Spring 2 2016
Dear Parents,
Please find enclosed details of the Year 6 curriculum for this half term. If you wish to
discuss any matter with me during the term, then please do not hesitate to contact me
either in person, by phone or via your childs homework book.
This term we will be completing a topic project entitled Material World This will be
linked to many areas of the curriculum and will allow the children to explore areas that are
of particular interest to them.
Literacy
Reading comprehension, spelling and
grammar.

your children and discuss their book choices.

Fractions, percentages and decimals
Statistics
Measuring angles
Times tables up to 12x12
Measures (area and perimeter)
Ways to help
Revise times tables up to 12x12
Pose children real-life problems involving time and money

Inheritance and Evolution
Ways to help
Relating topics in and around the home.
Accessing websites such as BBC bitesize and visiting the
library.

Music musical notation
SEAL Getting on and falling out
PSHE Living in the wider world

Homework

Homework each night will consist of a word of the day, a Maths teaser and reading. Please
help your child by checking their work, listening to them read and talking about their
books. Please sign their homework book each night as this will help them prepare for High
school routines. The children will continue be set work from their revision books for
reading comprehension, maths, grammar and spelling. Additional homework activities
involving these books will be set during the week and deadline dates recorded in the class
homework book.
