For next week you’re reading Joshua 8-24. Answer the
following:
• What did the people of Israel do to Ai?
• Why did the sun stand still for the Israelites?
• Who is the more military leader of Israel, Moses or
Joshua?
• Which tribes get to live west of the Jordan?
• What does Joshua do in dividing the rest of the
land?
• What do you remember of the “cities of refuge”
from the first 5 books? Are these the same kind of
cities?
• What do the “Eastern tribes” signify? Why are
they in the east?
• Where is the covenant renewed under Joshua, and
what is his famous line involving this renewal?

Joshua the Bridge

The Book of Joshua is often considered to be a bridge

between the books of the Pentateuch and the history
books found later in the Bible. This book is an important
bridge because it shows the historical tie between Israel
and God without the presence of Moses.

Without Moses’ leadership, it appeared many times that

Israel would go astray from God (and they in fact did go
astray many times), but Moses was always there to
bring them back into the covenant. Joshua’s leadership
functions in the same way and shows that the covenant
is not between God and Moses, but between God and all
of His people in Israel.

Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
