From the Principal...

Tn koutou katoa,
It is great to see classroom programmes up and running and it has
also been enjoyable to see children being extended in the water as
they have been learning to snorkel with our Experiencing Marine
Reserves team.
Meet the Teacher evening: Thursday 25th February, starts at
5:30pm in the Hall. There will be a short introduction to the teaching
team and the plans for developing the school in 2016 and then you will
be able to move to classrooms and around the school to meet the
team. You may even want to bring a few dollars and have a sausage
sizzle for dinner. A separate reminder flyer will follow shortly.

Thank you for paying school donations and getting those camp
fees in. Dont forget you can set up small regular payments through
the officegive Angela or Carol a call or drop in.
Principals Assistant: We may have a part time role (approximately
1520 hours per week) for a Principals Assistant/Administration
support person. The role would be varied. You would need to have
high levels of energy, a positive outlook and be highly organized and
efficient. Digital skills with MS Office and the personal integrity to
work with confidential information a must. If interested, please send an
introductory email and a current CV to: principal@kkps.school.nz by
Friday 26th March.

Mrs Justine Strang and the team engaging in Philosophical discussion as they explore and debate the concept of Bravery. Learners were presented with various
scenarios or actions and asked if they were Brave or not Brave. They also had
to present their reasoning. The depth of thinking and dialogue that emerged was
very interesting.

Charter targetswhat are we focusing on this year?

The Board has been well-engaged in developing a new school Charter
for 2016-2018. The document is based on our Vision and the community consultation. We have used the school Vision to drive the
Charter document of developing Learners who have Identity and
Belonging, Inquiring Minds, are Connected Learners and Resilient
Achievers.
Our Charter targets aim to accelerate progress in the following
focus areas:
- Boys writing, Mori learners Reading and the Reading levels of
learners after their first 40 weeks at school.
Do you want your children to explore their musical
abilities? Suzie Oakley is offering drum and piano/keyboard tuition to
students, during school time. Half an hour either individual ($25) or
group ($15). Lessons will be fun focused with the option to sit graded
music exams and/or learning to read sheet music. For more
information, please contact Suzie on 021 128 6974.

Class displays showing how some teachers are using the school Vision
and Values and the KORU Kids concept to promote positive selfmanagement and a focus on high expectations for learning at Kerikeri
Primary School.

Changes to Special Education provision at KKPS: We have been

reviewing how we cater for the needs of children with special needs
and other children who need accelerated progress and targeted
interventions. We are moving to a more classroom-based approach
rather than having a wide range of programmes that children are withdrawn to participate in. Learners with high and complex needs will not
notice too much of a difference but other learners will be supported by
teacher aides and/or targeted programmes within the classroom in
general. We hope we can have a stronger impact on learning through
this approach and will be monitoring and evaluating how successful
the new approaches are as the year progresses.
Have a great weekend,
Andrew Read and the KKPS Team.
