COLLEGE AND CAREER READY

Youth Apprenticeship Program

I was impressed with the job I was able to attain through this opportunity. While
most students will spend their summer laboring away at any trade available in the
hopes of raising money for college, I will be able to work in an environment that
pertains to my future vocational goals. For one of the first times ever, I actually
look forward to my job, which few high school students can say. I owe this to the
phenomenal employees at World Wide Sign Systems as well as the Youth
Apprenticeship program which has allotted me this amazing opportunity.
Jarrod Letter
BHS Senior
World Wide Sign Systems, Inc. has been providing wholesale signs and sign faces to
the sign industry since 1958. Our modern and well equipped manufacturing facilities
are located in Bonduel and Shawano Wisconsin, Atlanta, Georgia and Carson City,
Nevada

In October of 2015 World Wide Sign Systems Inc. partnered with Bonduel High
school and welcomed our first youth apprentice student, Josh Richter. Josh is being
mentored by one of our fabricators, Jordon Fischer who is a Bonduel High School
graduate himself. Josh is learning custom fabrication from start to finish, which
includes reading and interpreting patterns and blue prints, measuring, planning and
cutting of materials, welding, assembly, the proper use of tools and machines, all
aspects of fabrication. He is a wonderful addition on our shop floor. Besides the
skills of fabrication Josh is also learning the importance of good attendance,
listening, following directions and being a part of a team. The youth apprenticeship
program also allows our staff the chance to interact with the students and the
ability to share their experience and expertise, things that a traditional classroom
setting doesnt necessarily offer students.

It has been a beneficial partnership not only because Josh is learning new things,
World Wide Sign Systems Inc. has gained from his fresh and optimistic outlook on
manufacturing. It really is a win/win experience, so much so that we decided to take
on another youth apprentice student. This time in our front office, we welcomed
Jared Letter at the end of November. Jared is being mentored by Lil Duquaine,
Benefits Administrator. Jared took on the office clerk position. He is starting with
general office duties which include data entry and filing until he becomes more
familiar with our software. We look forward to seeing him progress to accounting
and finance related tasks as he becomes more comfortable with our processes. Like
Josh, Jared is also learning the importance of good attendance, listening, following
directions and being a part of a team. Jared brings a very disciplined and ambitious

perspective to World Wide Sign Systems Inc. It is a pleasure to have him working
with us.

The YA program allows our staff to act as mentors, trainers, positive role models and
hopefully create long term interest in manufacturing as well as offering something
back to our local community. As a company we get back dedicated and enthusiastic
employees who fill vital roles in our staffing. I see us expanding the program in
Bonduel as well as including our Shawano plant

Welding
Bonduel High School s Technology and Engineering Department offers classes to
prepare students to be college and career ready in the welding industry. Students
use the same equipment used in industry to learn oxyacetylene welding/cutting,
plasma cutting, SMAW (stick welding), MIG (wire welding), and GTAW (tig welding).
While taking welding classes at Bonduel High School, students earn college credit
from Northeast Wisconsin Techical College and can complete all the classes to
obtain their industry recognized MIG welding certificate. This certificate prepares
students for an entry level welding position at a company that uses the MIG welding
process.

"I just wanted to say thank you for allowing me to use you (Marcy Siolka, BHS
Teacher) as a reference for the internship I applied for through East Central Select
Sires. I actually just found out last night that I am hired for the internship because
of the skills I learned in Pro Multimedia and Bear Facts! They really liked that I knew
how to create videos and work with programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
They also really liked the content in The Bear Facts and it looked impressive.
So I just wanted to say thank you for everything you've helped me with throughout
the years. I really wouldn't have been able to get this internship without the classes
I took with you, being in the newspaper, and your support and encouragement. I
really appreciate it."

Bears Den
The Bears Den at Bonduel High School was created in 2011 to help students
practice job skills that they can someday use as they transition out of high school

and into the working world. It is a small-scale caf that serves homemade snack
mixes, string cheese, beef sticks, baked chips, apples, granola bars, water,
cappuccino, coffee, and fruit juices. It is staffed primarily by high school students
and the profits are used for future food and drink orders and maintenance to keep it
up and running. The relaxing and welcoming environment make it a great spot for
student club meetings, studying during senior release, or just stopping in to get a
snack and a drink and socialize with friends. Overall the Bears Den is a great
addition to our high school and it is enjoyed by students and staff alike!
