a. In the following passages, identify whether present tense or past tense is used to refer to
graphics and whether the reference is direct, indirect, or passive.
1. (Past, direct) The EPR spectra of samples of PM2.5 from five different sites in the U.S. are
shown in traces A-E of Figure 1.
2. (Present, indirect) Chromium Accumulation in E. coli Cells. The cellular uptake of
chromium is presented as milligrams of chromium per dry weight of treated E. coli cells
(Table 1).
3. (Past, indirect) Experiment 1. When fed at a concentration of 3 g of Se/g of diet,
high-Se broccoli significantly reduced the incidence and total number of mammary
tumors as compared to rats fed 0.1 g of Se/g of diet as either selenite alone or 0.1 g of
